Maya's deep slumber was randomly interrupted as the sound of her ringtone blared in her ear. She woke with a wince, almost banging her head on her bed stand in the process. Preventing herself from choking on her own spit, she caught her breath and grabbed her cellphone. Who the hell was calling in the middle of the night? Especially in the middle of a school week?

Rubbing her eyes, she struggled to open them fully as her thumb slid to answer the call. Clearing her throat, not even caring who was calling, Maya began with a yawning, "Hello?"

"That's the kind of voice I wish I could wake up next to."

The blonde went from sleepy to fully awake in only a matter of seconds, her eyes fully cracking open in alert. "Lucas?"

She could hear him lightly laughing on the phone. "That probably sounded creepy. Did I wake you, blonde beauty?" Maya hung onto every one of the boy's words, noticing that some were coming out in a slurred tone.

"Lucas, why are you calling?" She rubbed the side of her head as the girl brought her hair to one side. "Especially at what," Maya took a second to read her clock. "Two in the morning?"

"If I didn't tell you now, I feel like I'd never tell her." He slurred as Mays's brows formed a v shape. Sitting up, she was sure she was fully awake now, mentally reminding herself to slap Lucas in the face tomorrow morning for interrupting the sleeping she never finished.

"Who's 'her'? Why do you sound like that?" Maya replied after some seconds of silence. He was being so vague and weird, which were the two things he never had been. Was this a joke?

"You're also smart, too. How many bottles of beer does it take for-" He hiccuped. "For you to get drunk?"

"Well clearly you didn't drink just one." Maya mumbled. "About three or more. It depends on how much you can take in." Waving the question aside, the girl frowned at his general question. "What were you doing drinking anyway?"

"The boys were celebrating our team win." He mumbled into the phone. "We had... Lot of fun."

"Why don't you ever go to my games? I l.." he slurred. "I'd love you to be there sometime."

Maya nodded slowly and yawned again. "How come you're calling me again?" She waited for a response, but there was silence on the other end. "Lucas?-"

"No I'm still here." She heard him respond almost cautiously. "I think my stomach hurts."

"You think?" Maya said with half of a chuckle.

"It's like doing the knots thing. It always happens when you're around, and it's really frrreeaking annnoooyyiinggg." He groaned as Maya felt her chest tighten.

"W-what?" She blinked as the girl held the phone closer to her ear. For a moment, she was scared that he could hear her heart beating incredibly fast.

"Maya, what I a-what I'm trying to ssay is that I'm so in love with you it's not even funny anymore." He mumbled, hiccuping in the process. Maya almost dropped her phone as goosebumps sprinkled on her arms. Not realizing how long she was silent, he spoke again. "Maya did you hear me?"

"N-no I did. Can you uh, can you just say that again?

So then, Lucas repeated his previous statement which caused Maya's heart to flutter. She gulped and combed the front of her hair back with her hands. "That's what I thought."

...

"Well aren't you going to say it back?"

Maya took a breath and thought for a moment, staring at her wall with hesitant words behind her lips. "I.. Lucas, can I talk to you about this tomorrow? I really am tired."
