Professor Xavier and I stood in a training room that was supposedly fireproof, bullet proof, and practically bomb proof. But I was afraid it wasn't Embry proof.
"First, I'm going to ask you to take a deep breath and close your eyes."
I did as told and took a deep breath when my eyes shut.
"Now exhale and think of when you first figured out you were a mutant. What were you feeling? Where did it happen? How did it happen? What happened after you discovered your gift?"
I did as told and felt my hands clench in fists by my sides.
"Do not ball your hands up, Embry. That is a mechanism used to keep your mutation down. We do not want to keep it down and force it. We want to be able to work and function on a daily basis without force."
I unclenched my fists and opened my eyes.
"This isn't going to work, Professor. I-I really don't want to hurt you."
"Okay. If that is how you feel, then we do not have to do this. But know that you need not to worry about me."
"That's-That's it? You're not going to force me into training it?" I asked.
"Of course not. I'm not your father. I'm a friend. And a true friend does not force another friend to do things that they are not comfortable with." He smiled softly to me and made his way to the door.
"But I need to control it." I whispered, torn between my own emotions. Professor Xavier turned his chair around to me just as he got to the door.
"You have to want it, Embry-Lynn. I know it is painful and hard but you can do it. I have faith in you."
"Have you ever trained someone like me?"
"Someone with a powerful mutation?"
I shook my head.
"Someone whose mutation is unstable and uncontrollable."
"Your mutation is not uncontrollable. You have let it control you over the years."
"Why does my mutation have to be so hard to maintain?" I put my hands on my forehead and exhaled loudly.
"No one's mutation is easy to handle from the beginning. Everyone has to learn to control their gifts."
"Storm's had to've been easy. It's just controlling the weather."
"And your's is just controlling disintegration, yet is it easy for you?" The Professor raised an eyebrow.
I let my hands fall to my sides.
"Bobby has told me that you have the ability of creating a force field."
"That one rarely comes out too." I sighed.
The Professor paused for a moment, eyes closing. When they opened, he spoke.
"I am needed in my study right at the moment, Embry-Lynn. I apologize for having to cut our session short. But might I suggest meditation to clear your thoughts." The door closed behind him and I sighed.
•*•*•
I decided to try meditation when I got bored, so I went back up to my room.
You're suppose to clear your mind, right?
Not think about anything, but focus on breathing.
"Okay, Embry. We can do this." I sat criss cross on the edge of my bed near the window and closed my eyes with my middle finger and thumb touching.
Deep breath in, deep breath out. Deep breath in, deep breath out.
"Shit." I mumbled when I opened my eyes to look out the window. It was hard for me to stay still for long amounts of time.
This went on for about ten minutes. I would do good and stay still and focus on breathing but then I would hear something and open my eyes.
"Why must I be so difficult!" I threw myself back on to my bed, looking up at the ceiling.
"Keep trying. It's amusing, really." Logan was standing in the doorway, which I didn't notice.
"Shut up. I'm really trying." I rolled over on to my side and let out a huff of air.
"Trying what?" Logan closed the door behind him and walked over to me.
"To meditate. Professor Xavier said it might help me with learning to control my mutation but.... I have the attention span of a fly."
"I thought your session today would be longer."
"He had to go do something." I put my hands over my eyes. "I think he just wanted to not help me because my mutation is so dangerous. But I don't blame him."
"Don't say that. Xavier helps every mutant he comes across. Granted, some mutations might not be like your's but that's because everyone's different." Logan sat on the edge of the bed, gently pulling my hands away from my face.
"Mine is dangerous, Logan." I spoke seriously as I looked into his eyes. "He wants me to stop forcing the mutation down.... Doesn't... Doesn't he realize that if I let down the protective wall I've been holding up for years.... I could kill everyone in the school and knock it down easier and less messier than a wrecking ball?"
"Next time you go to have a session with him, I'll come."
"That doesn't make me feel any better about it, Logan."
"I won't let you do anything dangerous to anyone else, or yourself." He pressed a kiss to my temple.
Short chapter I know and I deeply apologize! But good news!! I'm finally on meds to stop my headaches so YAYY!!
