"You can be in control. You just have to be willing to take."

It seemed like those words were on reply going through my head as I stared out the window. There was nothing in particular that had my attention, but I just.... the inside of the school held nothing visually interesting for me at the moment, nothingI desired to look at.

What did it mean when it said I just had to take? Take lives? Take time? Take money? Take patience? Take patience? Take chances? What did I have to take!

"Hey, Em?" Bobby knocked on the open door to my room. I turned my head to him, kind of expecting one of his natural smiles, but it didn't come. "They're back."

I nodded my head gently and tucked a few pieces of hair behind my ear. I didn't realize my cheeks were damp from tears until I noticed I had strands of hair sticking to my skin.

"We're going to get through this." Bobby said quietly. "We'll remember them and fight for their lives and their rights."

"It won't bring them back, Bobby." I said quietly. "They're kids. You're just a kid. Victor attacking you kids like that.... It's wrong. I-I can't—,"

"Embry-Lynn!" Remy cut me off as he brushed past Bobby and practically ran to me. "You're never staying here without me again. Damn it, amoureux. You scared the...." He trailed off, spouting out French as he squeezing the breath out of me.

"Remy." I squeaked out, gripping his arm. He loosened up on me and pulled back to look into my eyes. I looked into his red eyes for a few moments before burying my head into his chest.

I didn't cry, I just needed to be held.

"My turn." Logan spoke from behind Remy.

"Back off, Howlett." Remy teased, kissing my temple a few times.

"How did you guys find out?" I asked, returning a kiss to Remy's cheek.

"Xavier read a few of the students here, I guess. Then Jean tried to and the kids were just dropping like rocks—,"

"Logan." I cut him off as I moved to his arms. "Don't. Please."

He crinkled his brows together and looked down at me.

"Did you see anyone, Embry?" Remy asked me. I nodded my head, arms slipping around Logan.

"Victor and agent-looking men, probably Styrker. They were just murdering them." My voice disappeared by the time I finished the sentence.

Remy went to help with whatever he could and Logan wanted to too, but I needed one of them to stay with me, so Logan stayed instead.

"They were younger than me." I whispered. "I should've been the one to go for them all."

"Don't say that." Logan's grip on my hand tightened a considerable amount as he sat up. "Never say that, Embry-Lynn."

I looked away from him, avoiding his gaze. But he was having none of it. With one of his abnormally large hands, Logan turned my head to him and put our foreheads together.

"I can lose everything else.... everyone else.... and I'd be able to go on.... but you." Hot breath fanned over my face as he exhaled the word 'you.' "I won't lose you. And definitely not to my shit brother."

I squeezed his hand and kissed his lips gently.

"The Professor's organized a vigil for the students tonight." Logan told me as I walked out of the bathroom. "Vigils here are different than most places. Here, everyone wears white to honor the lives of the mutant or mutants lost."
