Over the course of the next few weeks, I decided to take a couple classes at the school. I was only able to get an eighth grade education before my life made a dramatic twist all those years ago.

Taking classes here would give me something to do while Remy and Logan were busy.

I was currently walking out of the Mutant and Human Affairs class when I ran right into Logan. He had been running and his body made a quick stop as soon as he hit me, but I fell to the floor with a grunt.

"Shit, Embry." He grabbed my arms and pulled me to my feet. "You okay?"

"Yeah. What's the rush for?" I brushed my hair back as I looked up to him.

"The Professor sent me to find you." Logan took my hand and began to lead me towards the Professor's study. "Magneto attacked your family."

The news was on when we got to the study.

The X-Men and Remy were standing around, all eyes on the TV. But when I walked in, their gaze shifted to me.

The television showed my home surrounded by police officers and first responders. My brother, Gage, was on one of the stretchers being taken to an ambulance.

My breath hitched in my throat when I saw the body bag on a stretcher.

"Who died?" I just barely whispered. I was so scared.

"Your father." Professor Xavier replied with a mournful tone. "Embry, I am so sorry for your loss."

I just nodded my head, trying to let all of this process.

My father was dead.... Should I cry? How should I react?

"I'm gonna go for a walk, is that okay?" I asked the Professor quietly.

"Of course." He nodded.

"Do you want me to come with you, Emmy?" Remy asked me.

I just shook my head and left the room.

I suddenly felt a hand touch my shoulder. I jumped in my seat and looked over my shoulder to see it was Logan.

"Didn't mean to scare you." He sat down on the other end of the small bench. His eyes fell on to the school grounds.

I had been sitting on the same bench for nearly three hours, just thinking and watched the students who crossed the schoolyard or garden.

"Did Remy send you?"

"No. I wanted to come out and see you. You've been out here for a few hours. How're you feelin?"

I shutter my shoulders heavily and let out a sigh as my sight dropped to my hands.

"I don't... I don't remember much about my parents. It was centuries ago, and I lost my memory just after I met LeBeau.... so I don't know how to comfort you or make you feel better."

"I'm okay." I answered honestly and quietly. "I-I don't think he ever treated me like a daughter.... I've heard stories that he had me before he found the woman I call mom.... and my birth mother died giving birth to me. But he's been with my stepmom— I guess you could call her— for as long as I could remember."

"So the woman I met wasn't your real mom?"

I shook my head. Logan stayed quiet for a while, so I spoke again.

"I'm twenty three years old and he hadn't told me that she wasn't my real mom at any point in my life. It wasn't until I was ten that Gage told me he wasn't related to me and that he was my stepbrother."

His warm fingers laced with mine and he squeezed them briefly before letting my hand go.

"If you need to talk about anything at any point in time, Embry-Lynn, I'm here."

I looked over to him and smiled softly. Not even a minute later, Remy joined us on the bench.

"Hey, amoruex."

I scooted to the middle so Remy could sit by me too.

"How're you holdin out?"

"I'm okay." I smiled a little. "He never made me feel like I was a part of his family.... he treated me like trash. So I don't think he's worth crying over. I'll miss him, but I can do without. I have been for the past ten years."

"That's good." Remy put his arm across the back of the bench and rubbed my shoulder. "Me an' Howlett were talkin about helpin you control your mutation. I don't mean you gotta start right now, but I know you and I know that you're not gonna work towards controlling it unless someone keeps tellin you to and does it with you."

"I want to, Remy." I told him, looking into his red tinted brown eyes. "I don't want to be afraid of it anymore."

"Good." The corners of his lips turned up in a smile. "We can go talk to the Professor now, if ya want."

I nodded and stood to my feet. I then held my hand out for Logan, who took my hand and kissed my knuckles.

"Are you sure you want to do this right now, Embry?" Professor Xavier asked me. "Wouldn't you want to take a trip to see your family and attend your father's funeral?"

"I don't want to risk their lives again. And they don't me." I shrugged my shoulders lightly.

"Now that isn't true, Embry-Lynn." Remy said.

"But you are wise to not visit them again." The Professor said. "I fear that the places you venture to, Magneto and Victor will follow."

"What the hell's a Magneto?" I asked.

"He is a dangerous mutant who can control metal with his mind. And he knows you are protected by the X-Men. Victor had sided with him now."

"So he ditched Stryker?" Logan asked.

"Not exactly. He's just added to his allies who want Embry."

"I would gladly give them my mutation if I could, Professor." I let out a sigh and slumped in my chair.

"No, Embry-Lynn. If you were to have the ability to give your mutation away, never do it. You are a good person at heart. Giving your mutation to someone of a lesser moral standard would surely cause havoc to the rest of the population, human and mutant alike." The Professor shook his head. "Your mutation is very powerful and dangerous, as you know."

I nodded understandably and looked down at my hands.

"When would you like to start your training again, Embry?"

"As soon as possible." I replied instantly, looking up to meet his eyes.

He smiled softly and nodded.

"We start tomorrow."
