"Attention everyone! We will now invite the three students to the front of the hall." Master Zake exclaimed.

"First, Drake Silis!"

Drake looked mortified and proud at me. I faked a smile and a thumbs up. He walked to the front of the hall.

"Next, Oreo Evens!"

Oreo looked at me all jubilantly, much different than Drake. She skipped to the front.

My stomach wrenched. The two I hang out with are the two out of three kids. My mind churned. What if it was me? My hands trembled. I wasn't sure if I was good enough.

"And last, but certainly not least, Nevaeh Winston!"

I stood up and tried to confidently strut to the front of the hall, covering up my insecurities.

Master Zake placed a block of wax in Drake's hand.

"For newcomers, the block of wax will determine what member you are by changing to that group's mascot."

Drake closed his eyes. Once he opened them, a small teal dragon flitting its wings was in his hand instead of the wax.

"Drake Silis is in Fli!"

The Fli group whooped, hollered, and sent little dragons to drop confetti. They beckoned him to their table. He smiled broader than ever. He would like it there, I could tell.

Oreo got the block next. She never shut her eyes, but smiled ecstatically at the block as it formed. It turned into a small dagger, then erupted in black smoke.

"Oreo Evens is in Spi!"

The Spi Group clapped loudly and threw an eruption of colored smoke into the air as Oreo hopped to their table.

Stares seemed to burn through my body. I felt the cold wax tumble into my hand. I mimicked Drake and shut my eyes. I could feel the wax take shape, though I couldn't tell to what. When it stopped squirming, I opened my eyes.

A small flame was in my hand.

"Nevaeh Winston is in Coal!"

Coal yelled my name. One boy lit a tiny firework with his flame. They must've picked up from my uniform that I was a cheerleader and they tossed me way up into the air, to the top of the dining hall ceiling, at least forty feet up. I came back down laughing and with laughter surrounding me.

This had been the most joyful moment of my stay so far.
