They all laughed and chatted with me.
After a solid 15 minutes, a girl came up to me. She wore a black leather motorcycle jacket, black leggings, a red shirt under her jacket, and black leather combat boots, topped off with cat eyeliner and red lipstick. That appeared to be Coal's signature look, since all of the girls were wearing it.
However, she also wore a black choker, and her blonde hair was streaked with reds and oranges.
"Name's Raina Rose. So your the newbie?"
I nodded.
She scanned me from head to toe and gave a disapproving look.
"You look like a popular, girly, cheerleader." Raina said bitterly, as if she chewed up the word, didn't like the taste of it, and spit it out.
"Yeah, that's 'cause I am a popular, girly, cheerleader, got it?"
She scowled and turned to a huddle with some other girls in chokers.
"What's your name, new girl?" Raina said.
"Nevaeh."
Her group of friends and her cackled.
"Nevaeh? Are you joking? That's ridiculous! Doesn't it spell 'heaven' backwards? Ha, you're far from heaven. In fact you're-
"Hey!" A boy yelled. He had bleach-blonde hair and blue-green eyes.
"Leave her alone! Can't you stupid people accept anyone into the group! You guys complain why nobody wants to be here? Maybe because of this!"
Raina and her little circle stopped.
"We're sorry. You just don't look like a great...uh...fit for Coal." She said, still with distaste in her voice.
"Apology accepted."
I turned to the boy.
"Hey, thanks. What's your name?"
"I'm Liam. And it's no problem. They get nippy at first, but become loyal and gentle when you get to know them, like a dog."
"Okay."
"Oh yeah! C'mon, we have fire control class! It's really cool, you'll love it. By the way, I was the one who ignited the firework,"
I laughed.
"Well that was an entertaining welcome indeed."
I bounded about to our fireproof classroom, talking and smiling with Liam all the while.
Honestly, my little run-in with Raina had me worried about my group. But they just seem to be a little fiery, that's all.
And believe me, I can fit in with fiery just fine.
