Chapter 40: This is Only the Beginning of the End

**Eds POV**

Father was dead. Ed's dad gave up his life for Alphonse who gave up his soul to give Edward his arm back. Al had his body back. Izumi and March had escaped. Izumi was crying over Anna with Ed and Al. Ed was holding the bloodied girl.

Rubble was randomly placed everywhere from the fallen ceiling. Blood stained the floor that was still visible. Al had his long blond hair behind him and Ed's red coat was wrapped around his frail body. Tears fell down his pale face. 

Ed and Izumi had brought Anna over from where Al put her before so she was safe, over so he could say goodbye. Mustang showed up a little later with a wound on his shoulder. Izumi was crying silently over the black haired girl beside Ed who was also crying.

Izumi stroked her hair out of her eyes.

"She didn't deserve this." Izumi said quietly. "All she did was good." Al gave a small pained cry as the tears fell faster down his cheeks. Tears fell from all three of their faces at the bloodied girl.

"Even when she got hurt, she didn't give up." The sadness in Ed's voice as he tried to keep the pain inside. Tears washed lines of blood away from his cheeks.

"We'll give her the best funeral we can Edward." Mustang said kneeling next to him. Mustnag didnt know Anna as well as the brothers and Izumi did but, he could feel the pain raidiating from them like a furnace. Ed nodded sadly.

"She gave her life to protect us. I loved her." He said quietly. Mustang gasped slightly then placed a hand on the blonds shoulder; trying to comfort him.

"She was like a sister." Al said quietly. Ed nodded in agreement; tears still falling freely down his face.

"Like family." He said. This time he let the pain sound in his voice. "She was murdered." One of Eds tears landed on her face. Followed by another. And another. And another. "There's still colour in her face. Maybe I could save her." Ed said going to clap his hands.

Izumi grabbed the sixteen year olds left hand in hers and held it tightly.

"Ed. Don't. You'll only end up killing yourself." She said quietly. "Don't be a fool again." Ed lowered his head and let his bangs fall over his eyes.

"This is twice we've lost someone we loved." Ed said quietly.

"First mom now Anna." Al said wiping the tears from his eyes. The pain in his voice was crystal clear.

"I never knew your mother but I know she was as great as Anna was." Izumi said quietly as she brushed away the tears that fell down her cheeks. A few seconds of silence passed.

"I wish she'd come back." Ed said quietly. Just as he wished, Anna's stomach glowed a red, like when the Homocului came back to life. Ed's teary eyes widened to the size of boqlinf balls, as the large hole in the black haired girls, stomach disappeared before their eyes. 

"Anna?" Al asked quietly although waiting for her to reply. Anna's body then arched up and took a large breath of air with a large gasp. 

All they could think was 'what just happened' as she took in more gasping breaths. 

**Anna's POV**

Truth sent me back. He gave me my life back. That I'm grateful for. He's always intended me to live here for the rest of my life. How great was that? It was pretty great in my opinion. Though, I wouldn't want to die again.

The first thing I feel in my body again is a pain in my chest. Like when it felt like my bones were on fire. But in my heart, stomach and lungs. 

My body arched up a little and I took a deep breath in and let the oxygen into my sore lungs. It hurt at first but then soothed as I took in more large gulps of air. It felt good to breath again.
