CHAPTER FIVE

~Lilys POV~

I warmed up my dinner of some leftover Chinese food from the night before and ate it quickly. After I was done I went upstairs to change. I put on some jeans and a green T-shirt and went back downstairs.

I sat down on the couch and opened my laptop again, but when I heard a car motor near the house I slammed it shut and got up to look out the window.

Jacob, his dark hair falling in his eyes, was walking up the path to the front door.

I stepped back from the window when I heard a knock and, suddenly feeling self conscious, got up to open the door.

"Hey," Jacob said when I opened the door.

"Hi," I replied awkwardly "er...come in,"

"So," Jacob said when we were seated on the couch "like I said before, I guess I owe you an explanation,"

"Yeah, you do," I replied.

"Well," he said, playing with a loose thread on his jeans "the truth is...i...well-I can't do this!" He said the last part with a sharp outtake of breath, as if he had been holding it.

"I don't know how to explain this to you without you freaking out...or...you definitely wouldn't believe me."

He looked up at me. There was anxiety in his eyes, but when he looked at me, it disappeared.

And then he kissed me again. This time I didn't pull away.

When the kiss broke, it left both of us gasping for breath.

"I-I shouldn't have done that," Jacob said.

"I-why?" I said.

"Be-because...I'm a fish," he blurted.

"You're a what?!" I said, a laugh escaping my lips. "What do mean you're a fish?"

"Well..." Jacob said "my family are...we're...we have powers. We can control water,"

I blinked. "Why didn't you want to tell me this before?"

"You-you don't think I'm some kind of a freak?" Jacob frowned.

"Of course not," I laughed. "Why would I think you're a freak?"

"I don't know..." Jacob confessed.

After that we talked for a while. After about two hours my eyes started getting heavy with tiredness. The next thing I knew, I was asleep.
