CHAPTER FIFTEEN

~Lily's POV~

I sat in the damp cell, surprised at how fast I had gone from pink lace and doilies to a dark cell.

A spider creeped down from its web in the corner and searched for some food. Surprisingly there was not a fly in sight, nor any bugs for that matter.

It was certainly a well kept cell.

I sat there for hours (or what seemed like hours. I didn't have a watch and there was no windows in my cell, so I had no way of knowing the time), but strangely I was not bored.

I guess so much had happened that afternoon that I had enough to keep my mind busy.

Every now and then, a guard dressed completely in red and holding a large gun walked by, but they usually didn't stop.

I wondered why they carried guns even though they had fire power. Maybe all the people in Emberclan didn't have powers, or perhaps they just carried them to look intimidating.

If so, they were definitely achieving their goal.

In a few hours, one of them pushed a bowl of mush through a tiny flap at the bottom of the cell door.

I assumed that the fact I was getting supper meant that it was the evening.

I poked the contents of the bowl with my finger sceptically. It looked kind of like a runny cow pat.

I tasted it. It tasted slightly like oatmeal and carrots.

Since it was all I had, I finished it off.

When I looked back towards the door, Griffin was standing there, frowning.

"So," he said, his frown remaining. "Have you decided to be nicer to me, or do you want to stay in that cell for the rest of your miserable little life?"

I shivered at the thought of staying in Emberclan for the rest if my life.

"I'll never be nice to you!" I shouted. "You're a horrible person! You don't deserve respect from anybody!'

"Very well," Griffin frowned. He walked away, and I was left alone in a damp cell once more.
