Chapter 14

Crossbow and arrows, my other sword, my blades, and my gun. That's all I need.

I shook my head.

I am really gonna go through with this?

Yes. No time to wuss out, now is there? I told my parents I'd do this quick and come home. Not to mention Danny is waiting for me.

I don't even love him. I love Atticus.

"Woah. Love Atticus? When did you start loving? There is no such thing as love is your dictionary, V, so stop being ridiculous." I said to myself.

I stared at the sword in my hand.

Am I really going to kill Atticus?

I might not love him, but I certainly feel something for him.

Something strong. Very strong.

I don't want to lose this feeling. Atticus dying would affect me, especially if he died at my hands.

Sociopath or not, I feel something for him and that's got to mean that I'm on my way to becoming normal.

I want to be normal. I want to forget this stupid disorder that I was told I have. I want to feel. I want to live.

I closed my eyes and dropped the sword I was holding. I opened my eyes and turned to look at the all the silver weapons on the table, frowning at them.

No more.

"Vitani?" Atticus stared at me with shock. I looked up at him.

"I'm sorry," I said softly. He raised his eyebrows.

"For wanting to kill my pack and me? For killing innocent werewolves of other packs?" He asked with a hint of anger.

"Yes, yes. I'm sorry. I know it doesn't excuse my behavior or what I've done and I understand if you don't want to forgive me, but I just wanted to let you know." I spoke. Atticus stared at me and moved aside, letting me in his house. I slowly walked in, studying his every move.

"Stay here, I'll be right back," he spoke. His eyes shined silver as he turned and walked out of the room.

When he returned, he was carrying a ball of glass. His silver eyes looked over to me.

He held the ball of glass in front of me, murmuring strange words.

I felt something inside me change. I started to feel various emotions that I had never felt before. I looked down at the ball of glass and saw as it sucked something black out of me, turning the crystal ball black.

When Atticus finished, his eyes turned hazel once again. He stared at what he'd just done and looked up at me.

When I saw him, I felt it and I knew what it was.

Love.

I stared crying. I almost collapsed but Atticus reached me and caught me.

I cried and cried as he comforted me and whispered soothing words into my ear.

"I'm sorry. I'm so sorry." I repeated.

"It's all right, Vitani, it's all right." he replied, hugging me tighter.

"Thank you," I said after the long silence. He pulled back and smiled at me.

"I have absolutely no idea what I did or how I did it, but you're welcome." He laughed. I chuckled and sniffed.

"The witch who gave this to me said it would help me find you," he explained. I nodded.

"At first I didn't understand," he continued. "But I do now. It wasn't to physically locate you. It was to locate you mentally, to release you of what you believed yourself to be and to free the real you."

"The real me?" I asked. He stared at me intensely, and I became slightly uncomfortable.

"What?" I asked.

"Yes, because I removed the evil within you," he said, tilting my chin up with his thumb and index finger.

"Is that why I can feel love now?" I asked.

"Love?" He asked, a teasing grin forming on his face. His eyes shined, and he seemed extremely happy and what I said.

I realized that I had slipped up, my eyes widening. A small cough left my lips as I awkwardly shifted away from him.

Come on, think of something to cover up!

"Yes, the love I feel for my weapons," I said casually.

"Nice save," he laughed, the sarcasm heavy in his voice. I rolled my eyes and got up. I took the crystal ball from his hands and stared at it.

"All this darkness in here is what was making me evil..?" I asked him. He nodded.

"How the hell did I get all this evil in me?" I asked. Atticus lifted his eyebrows and made a face.

"I don't really know. The good thing is that it's all gone now, and it's never coming back. You're free."

"Free," I repeated softly. I got up from his lap and walked to the front door, grabbing the ball.

"What are you doing?" He asked.

"Come and find out."

I opened the front door and stopped on the side walk. Atticus stood beside me, watching me.

I stared at it once more before letting the ball slip from my fingers, the glass shattering below me. I watched the black gas fade away, leaving only the pieces of clear, shattered glass.

Atticus opened his mouth as if to say something, but was interrupted by my phone ringing.

"Hello?" I asked.

"Vitani? Have you progressed in your mission?" I heard my father ask. I tensed as I heard how cold his voice really sounded.

This is the voice of my father? He raised me with the cold, distant tone?

"I've decided not to go on with the mission, father."

"Why the hell not?" He yelled. I grimaced at his tone.

"I've changed. Also-," I said, but stopped when I heard shattering and yelling.

"Father?" I asked slowly.

I only heard heavy breathing. After a few minutes, I heard his voice again, sounding very calm yet very angry.

"Vitani, we will send Danny to bring you home and to complete the mission. You have failed your mother, your instructors, your training, and most importantly me. Be ready. Danny will be there in five days. And this will not go unpunished." was the last thing he said before hanging up, leaving me standing there with wide eyes.
