Chapter 26

As soon as I finished packing my bag, I closed it up and ran out the front door.

Where I'm going? No idea.

I just need to leave before I hurt anyone else like I did Laura.

Maybe a witch will help me?

I ran as fast as I could, but even then I could hear howling and heavy steps chasing after me.

The whole pack was after me.

I frowned and pushed myself to go faster.

Slowly, I heard the crunching of leaves behind me fade away.

I outran them! Ha!

I then heard a howl. I glanced back and saw a grey blur behind me.

Atticus.

I can't let him stop me. I might hurt him without intention.

I just need to make it to where the humans are.

I kept running, seeing the forest come to an end.

I made it! I ran a bit more and crossed the street.

I sighed and looked back, just in time to see Atticus putting on some pants. He looked up and my heart clenched at the sight.

He stood there, a heartbroken look on his face.

I felt tears start to come up.

He can't get me now, I'm out of his territory. If he does, it'll be kidnapping.

I turned around and started walking forward.

I walked around five blocks until I made it back to the hotel I was staying in before Atticus had bitten me.

I went up to my room and threw down my bag on the couch.

I reached into my bag and took out my phone.

I dialed my father's number.

"Father?"

"What do you want, Vitani?" He asked, and I could practically see him gritting his teeth while clenching his phone in his hand.

"I'm coming back," I said.

Silence. I could only hear his breathing.

"You finished your mission?" He asked.

"No, but I'm coming back. My only condition is that the Desert Moon pack is not killed."

Once again, silence.
