Chapter 18

There's a burning in my neck.

Why is there a burning in my neck?

I slowly opened my eyes, a bright light blinding me. I looked away from the light and sat up, grabbing my neck and groaning in pain.

"Vitani! You're awake!" I heard Atticus say.

I ignored him, though, turning to get out of the bed and standing up.

"See, Alpha, I told you she'd be fine," another voice said. I recognized it as Julian's voice.

Oh, crap.

I started getting nauseous, so I quickly looked around. There was a trash can in the corner of the room.

I bolted for it, making it just in time.

I heard a growl.

"Fine? Fine? She's throwing up. How is this fine?" Atticus snapped.

"Get out," I heard Atticus growl.

I looked over to Atticus after throwing up and laughed.

"I feel fine," I replied, right before turning over to the trash can and throwing up again.

I heard the door close, indicating that Julian had just left.

"You're not fine, Vitani," Atticus said, walking over to me and patting my back.

"Come here, please?" a voice said. I turned around and noticed an old woman standing next to the bed.

She had a name tag on her white coat.

Alondra Bergeron
Pack Doctor

I walked over to the bed and sat on it. She handed me a paper towel and I wiped my mouth.

"I'll get you a toothbrush in a second, let me just see if my assumptions are correct," Alondra said, moving my hair and tilting my head gently.

I hissed in pain.

"What is it?" Atticus asked.

"Her body is rejecting the mark," she whispered, staring at my neck.

"How is that even possible?" Atticus asked.

"Well, she's a human, so her body is rejecting the werewolf DNA," she replied, letting go of my neck and looking at Atticus.

"Nothing bad will happen to her apart from probably nausea. When the mark has faded, you'll be good as new!"

Atticus nodded. Alondra left the room, scribbling down on her clip board.
