I trudged back to the cave in silence. The sun was beginning to set casting a rainbow of color across the sky. It almost made me sick to my stomach. It was at sunset when I'd first met Leo and he'd taken me on a tour around camp. It was at sunset when he first kissed me.
I shook my head. He doesn't matter, I told myself, he doesn't matter anymore.
Just as I was approaching the meadow near the cave, Calypso came running out. She smiled upon seeing me.
"What?" I asked her.
"Kylie," she panted, " I came as soon as it happened. I gave her the antidote. She's awake."
All of my other thoughts suddenly washed away, "What?"
"Stop saying that," she laughed, "Go on! I'm gonna go find Percy."
I sprinted back to the cave. I was beyond happy. Kylie was going to be okay. I'd lost so much in the past few days, but she was okay. She was the one thing I couldn't stand to loose, but she was okay. I was ecstatic.
I ran into the cave and over to her side. She was still lying down, but her eyes were open. She looked slightly confused for a moment, though as soon as she saw me she smiled.
"Kylie oh my gods!" I exclaimed, sitting down in the chair next to her bed.
"Rowan," she shook her said grinning, "What happened? Where are we?"
"You were hit by a Thorn and then again by one of his scorpions and blacked out," I explained,"We escaped through the portal and ended up here. This is Ogygia..."
"Ogygia..." Kylie repeated, "As in...?"
"Yup," I confirmed.
"So that's who that girl was," Kylie said.
I nodded, "I want to hate her, but she's too nice," I told her with a laugh, "She's the one that made the antidote that woke you up, gods we all thought you were going to die."
"But Row-"
"But it's okay I now," I smiled, "Because it saved you and now I don't have to worry and-"
"Rowan," said Kylie sternly.
"What?" I asked.
"The antidote didn't work," she said.
"Huh?" I questioned, "but you're awake."
Kylie hesitated for a moment, "I want you to listen for a moment okay?"
I bit my lip, "Okay."
"When Thorn first hit me and I blacked out, Hades visited me," she said.
My heart dropped into my stomach, but I let her continue.
"He told me that only seconds after I blacked out I was stung by an actual scorpion," Kylie spoke calmly and slowly trying to allow me to understand, "This scorpion however, was sort of a mutation, meant only to kill and impossible to heal. One sting could kill once the poison reached the heart."
"Well you're still alive maybe we can extract the poison or something," I suggested frantically.
"Rowan it's almost to my heart, let's face it, I'm already gone," she said, tears forming in her eyes, "Hades is just allowing me time to say goodbye."
"No, no no no," I said, "It's just the poison talking you're delirious, the antidote is just slowly working its way through your system. It's all gonna be okay."
"You don't get it do you," said Kylie softly.
We shared a looked. Her expression was pained, but I saw truth in her eyes, eyes that begged me to understand, begged for forgiveness.
