It's been about a week since I came to Camp Half-Blood, Friday night. In that week I had done alot. Javelin throwing, sword fighting, learning Ancient Greek, even pegasus riding. I found out that I was alot more athletic than I had thought. I hadn't talked to Leo since that night on the beach. I guess there really hasn't been the time. Honestly, I couldn't stop thinking about him. I had begun to worry that maybe he wasn't what I thought. That maybe he had just gone onto the next girl. I know it sounds bad, I mean I didn't like him like that, right?
On top of all of that, I still hadn't been claimed. I had begun to loose hope.
Friday night was always Capture the Flag. Apparently it was tradition. Artemis and her Hunters had surprised us with a visit yesterday. They said they would stay for the game tonight, Hunters against the Campers. I was told that they had won the last fifty-six games in a row. I was pretty excited, yet extremely worried I would mess something up making fifty-six turn to fifty-seven.
"C'mon," Kylie said, "We have to get over to the forest."
Kylie and I set off to the forest at a run. Once we got there, it looked like just about everyone was there. The campers were on one side all wearing or holding helmets with blue plumes with their own gear (Kylie was able to get me a helmet and gear as well). Across from them were the hunters. Each of them held a bow with quivers across their backs. They all wore silver jackets over plain white shirts with silvery camo pants and black combat boots. What I found unique about the Hunters is that they all gave off a silver aura. Honestly they were pretty intimidating.
"Okay, looks like everyone is here," Mr. D said, "You guys know the drill. The creek is the boundary line, the entire forest is fair game, flags must be prominently displayed with a maximum of two gaurds at least ten yards away. Prisoners may only be disarmed, not gagged or bounded, and lastly no killing or maimimg.Tonight we have the hunters with us so it will be campers against hunters. Campers are being led by the Athena cabin in the east woods!"
A bunch of cheers rose from the campers as Annabeth held up a grey flag with an owl on it.
"The Hunters are being led by Thalia Grace in the west woods!"
The Hunters cheered as a girl with spiky black hair held up a silvery flag with a stag on it. That name sounded familiar. Grace. Jason Grace. His sister maybe?
"Take your positions! Good luck!"
"Hunters!" Thalia yelled, "Onward!"
"Okay," Annabeth said as the Hunters disappeared into the forest , "There's a lot of us which is an advantage. However, we have lost our last fifty-six games with them. That is not something that should discourage you. If anything it should motivate you. I believe that we can break their streak tonight! Who's with me!?"
I cheered along with the rest of the campers. After she finished giving out positions we took to the woods. I was just assigned defence, meaning I would stay on our side, ready to fight anyone who came over. I ran deep into the forest. It was really dark and almost damp. I ran till I reached the other end of the forest at the beach. Knowing that it was a boundary I walked back in a ways.
I felt almost stupid standing there, awkwardly holding my sword, just waiting for something to happen. I went over to one of the trees to test out the branches. I figured that if I could climb to the top that maybe I could see the flag. It had particularly low branches that I could reach, so I jumped up grabbing a branch. It seemed to be pretty sturdy as it held my body weight. I pulled myself up sitting on the branch. I made my way up the tree until the branches were too small to climb on. Luckily I still managed to have a great view of the woods. I scanned the tree tops looking for something, anything. Unfortunately, I saw nothing but leaves. I climbed back down to the ground, a bit discouraged.
