The sea water closed over my head like an envelope. The sudden rush of cold water made me want to scream and run back up to the shore. My eyes were squeezed shut and I was holding my breath so tightly that my lungs were already burning, screaming for air. It felt like I was sitting there for ages. I was beginning to feel desperate for air, aching to get out of the icy water.
"Rowan!" Percy yelled, "You can open your eyes now."
I opened my eyes wearily to see Percy scowling at me sitting in a large air bubble, completely dry, a grinning Leo beside him, though he was soaking wet.
"Let out your breath," Percy sighed.
I let it out feeling embarrassed, the burning sensation leaving, "Right..."
"Okay so we just need to make our way to the bottom and-"
"Hold up," I said, " Why are you not wet,yet Leo and I are soaked."
Percy rolled his eyes, "I'm a son of Poseidon, I can control that. Anyways, as I was saying, we just have to make it to the bottom and it should be pretty simple from there. That is unless there is some monster guarding the thing."
"Yeah, let's hope not," Leo said.
"And if there is?" I ask.
"Then we try to kill it," Percy said.
"Try? That's reassuring," I mumbled.
Percy shrugged, " Whatever, it can't be far from the drop off since it wasn't too long ago since he lost it."
"Good," I sighed, "It's getting cold down here."
Once we hit the bottom, we started scanning the floor. It was harder than it seemed. The ground was rocky leaving many crevices it could be stuck in, and it wasn't like we could split up. After a while of searching, I noticed something flash underneath a rock. Though it wasn't exactly a flash, it was as though the sunlight had hit it just right, that if we were to pass it, it would appear to flash. Just like a celestial bronze stud would.
"Guys, I think I got it." I said.
The two of them stopped and turned to me, "Where?" Percy said.
"If you look just right," I pointed to the club, "You can see one of the studs glint a little bit."
"Oh yeah, " Leo said almost mesmerized by the flashes.
Percy nodded, "Just approach it slowly, you don't know what else is there."
"Looks okay," Leo said as we came up to it.
"Yeah," said Percy, "Let me just use my sword to move it just in case."
He clicked his sword into place and reached out to push it over. He had only moved it a tiny bit when there was the sound of a hiss.
"Oh SCHIST!" Percy yelled pulling Leo and I, along with the bubble, backwards.
"What?" I asked wide eyed.
"I'm not sure. Sounds like a nest of baby serpents are under that thing," Percy said.
"Great," Leo huffed.
"If they're just babies," I said, "They shouldn't be that hard to kill, right?"
"Well," said Percy, "Thats debatable. I'm sure they still have a nice set of razor sharp teeth."
"Oh joy," I sighed.
"I say we just go for it," Leo said.
Percy raised a questioning eyebrow.
"I say you two go it with your swords and daggers and stuff, and then I can go in and grab the club while they're distracted you know?"
