I woke up with a jolt feeling a sudden weight crash upon me. I opened my eyes to see blonde curls falling over my face and blue eyes staring directly at me.
"HOLLY!" I groaned.
"IT'S MY BIRTHDAY ROW!" she screamed, "DOUBLE DIGITS!"
I pulled my pillow out from under me, smacked her lightly on the face and smashed it over my head.
"Ugh what time is it?" I asked.
" Its ten thirty! I've been waiting for an HOUR to open my presents, COME ON! GET UP!"
I pressed my pillow harder over my head, "Give me a minute."
"HURRY! I'M GETTING ANXIOUS!"
She got up off of me and flew out of the room singing some Taylor Swift song. I let out a loud groan then slowly dragged myself out of bed. I walked over to my mirror and cringed. My hair was all tangled and I looked like I hadn't got sleep in days. I ripped a brush through my hair and braided it down my back. I pulled on a pair of jeans shorts and my favorite peacock tee shirt. I quickly brushed my teeth and put on a little makeup before running downstairs.
"YES! YOU'RE FINALLY UP!" Holly screamed as I emerged into the kitchen.
"Gosh Holly calm down," Lydia said.
"Come on! I want to open my presents!" Holly said running out of the room.
I laughed and followed her into the living room, Lydia and my foster dad Mark right behind me. Holly had already dove into her presents and had one perched in her lap. I sat down on the couch next to her. She looked over at me smiling, her legs shaking making the present bob up and down.
"Okay Holly," Mark said, " these are just a couple presents from us since we are having your family party tomorrow."
"I know!" Holly said, "Can I start?"
"Holly," Lydia scolded.
"Sorry, but can I?"
Lydia shook her head, "Go ahead."
Holly tore open the card, read it quickly and tossed it aside. She ripped the paper off of the package throwing it around the room. When the wrapping paper was finally off, she screamed with joy.
"OH MY GOSH!" she squealed, "AN AMERICAN GIRL DOLL!"
"Do you like her?" Lydia asked.
"OH MY GOSH YES! SHE LOOKS JUST LIKE ME! CAN I OPEN HER NOW!?"
I laughed. I remembered when those things were popular. I was around ten like Holly, in maybe my sixth or seventh foster home. I wanted one so badly but all I could do was play with my friends' dolls. Before I knew it I was off to another foster home and I got too old for them.
"Why don't you wait until you're done opening your presents?" Mark suggested.
Holly sighed, "Fine."
After ripping open three more presents she had two more outfits and a dog for her doll.
"Can I open her now? I want to put one of these outfits on her!"
"Hold on," I said, "I think there's one more."
I pointed to a small box underneath all the wrapping paper. Holly smiled and ran to pick it up. It was about the size of a matchbox and it was wrapped in sparkly pink wrapping paper. She tore the paper off, opened the box and gasped. Inside was a small bracelet. It was a simple golden chain with a pink H charm with rhinestones strung on it.
"Oh my gosh! I've wanted this bracelet forever! But I only told-" she turned to me and I smiled, "THANK YOU THANK YOU!" she screeched as she threw her arms around me.
