misunderstanding

Emily woke up, slightly startled from some kind of noise. She opened her eyes only to see a large arm on her stomach, and she was leaning against a muscular body that she had grown accustomed to. Niall's snores were pestering her eardrums, but she didn't mind. The corners of her mouth twitched, before finding herself yawning and her eyes drooping closed. His warmth had seduced her enough to make her doze off again.

because I could stare at you / and nevertheless how many hours I do

I will never get bored / of your stunning beauty

my dear aesthetic / I cannot keep up with your elegance

I can list down the things I adore / but there would never be enough paper

for me to love you / all I need is my beating heart

"What the hell?" Emily leapt out of her previous position and she stumbled slightly before her knees hovered over the coffee table that was in front of the sofa. Phew, nice save from a bruise.

Her eyes quickly roamed over Brittany's body who was obviously wearing another skin tight dress that Emily would've suffocated in. She thought of arranging her words properly but as Brittany quirked her eyebrow at Emily, she stuttered.

"I-It isn't what you're thinking, I mean-" Emily looked between Brittany and a yawning Niall that had no realization that Brittany was in the room.

Brittany scoffed. "What's happening here Niall?"

"Oh, hi Brittany." Niall simply said, getting up from the sofa, and bringing Emily closer to him by the shoulders, and Emily's eyes widened at how calm and collected he was. But somehow it seemed like Niall was being protective over her, and she would've felt butterflies - if it wasn't for the woman that made her insides clench that was standing in front of them.

Emily saw the look in Brittany's eyes, and she didn't like it. "What the hell Niall? I thought we were going to get married after this slut's mom died!" Emily couldn't lie, those words hurt. She found herself looking at the ground, tears threatening to drip from her eyelids.

Niall gritted his teeth. "Don't you dare call her that! You, out of people should look in the mirror!" Niall felt Emily releasing herself from his grip, and he watched as her eyes were watering.

"I should go-" her words came out more like a whisper, and Niall mentally groaned at how Brittany had to come and ruin everything. Emily was literally breaking, and Niall knew it.

Niall shook his head. "Please Emily, listen to me. Brittany's talking bullshit. You trust me, don't you?" Niall turned slightly only to see a smirking Brittany. "How did you even come in? I took your key back!"

Brittany smirked. "Let's just say I had a copy made," she said, twisting the other key in her hand, however as smart as she thought she was, Niall had a fast throw and catch reflect; thus making the key currently in Niall's grasp as Brittany gasped.

"Give that back you dick!" Brittany roared, but Niall wasn't having it. Emily was already trying her best to get to the room so this wouldn't happen in front of her eyes, but she couldn't. It felt like she was frozen in place.

Niall groaned and tugged on his hair, before clenching his jaw repeatedly. "God damnit Brittany! We're done! Can't you ever get that through your thick skull? I'm fucking serious, just leave! We're fucking over!"

Emily wasn't a fan of profanities and she couldn't help but cower near to the couch. She wasn't sure what she was doing, but she just wanted to get away from all of this sudden banter. She didn't like it.

"But Niall-" Brittany stopped talking, once Niall brought his hand in the air as a halt to end her words. He was serious, and Brittany just had to come back for another reminder. He didn't want her anymore, he gave up.

"We're over, Brittany. Go back home." Niall said, his voice low yet stern.

Brittany kept shaking her head, since all of this was happening. And there was only one person to blame.

"You! It's all because of you! You just had to come in the picture and ruin everything didn't you? It's all your fault, bitch!" Brittany kept shouting and shouting and Emily had her hands over her ears but they weren't blocking any words at all.

She tried to open her mouth to speak, to deny what Brittany had said. But Emily couldn't.

"Niall keeps bragging about how you're perfect and he kept pushing me away! It's all because of you and your dying mother! I hope she fucking dies!" Brittany roared and that was when Emily has had enough.

sadness hit me / like a bullet in the back

your missile hitting my body / oozing blood that reflects my love

dear oh dear / how could you hurt me so easily

Emily was full on sobbing when her knees hit the floor, and her hand raised to touch her burning cheek. She felt like her world froze at Brittany's harsh words and the sudden slap that had struck her rosy cheeks. It stung so much, her tears weren't stopping. She whimpered and sobbed, and she felt like such a debby downer, but she couldn't help it. It felt like all of her strength to handle her emotion disappeared since last night.

Niall ran to her side, but Emily kept shaking her head and sobbing. He tried to reach out for her, but his heart broke when she cowered away from his touch. It felt like he was the ultimate reason behind everything that was happening.

It was.

"Get the fuck out Brittany! And don't you dare come back!" Niall's voice roared through his gritted teeth and Brittany felt like such a disgrace. She knew this was going to happen, and that slap just made everything simply end. She just smirked at Niall before stomping her heels out of the house.

He walked over to Emily and her tears were still prickling down her rosy cheeks, and he couldn't help but reach out to wipe them away with his thumbs. Luckily for him, she didn't cower away but she flinched at the cold sensation of the pad of his fingers.

"I'm so sorry, baby. Please don't cry." Niall mumbled, and Emily couldn't help but whimper at his soothing words, but it still couldn't heal the burning on her cheeks and the tear in her heart from Brittany's harsh words. It wasn't something she could handle at the moment.

but as I close my eyes / and feel the breeze that flew by

I will not stop adoring you / as your anchor has me dragged down

and I can never forget / how your touch burned onto my skin

the feeling so foreign / yet so comforting

Niall rushed to the kitchen to get some ice after getting Emily to lie on the couch. He came back and placed it lightly on her cheek with some cloth covering it. His eyes kept gazing on the red mark that was obvious from Brittany's nails.

"Niall, your phone keeps ringing." Niall shook his head, wanting to focus on her as his main priority but she wouldn't take it. Emily's heart still stung from Brittany's words. Was he going to marry Brittany after her mother died? Was all of this just a stupid act?

Emily watched as Niall stuttered on the phone, and she immediately sat up. Niall sat in his place, and his eyes went back and forth between Emily and the floor. She knew something was wrong.

As Emily watched his profile, she couldn't help but wonder what she has to fulfill his needs? Brittany deserved him, and even though he deserved much more; Emily wasn't enough for him. She wasn't good enough for him, maybe that was the reason everything wasn't going on well.

Niall looked at Emily, and she quickly stopped from thinking about what had recently happened. She watched as Niall tried to carefully think what to say, and the suspense was killing her.

"W-we have to go, Millie." Niall said lowly, and Emily's stomach clenched at his words.

She stood up straighter, and gulped as Niall's appearance was making her immediately figure everything out.

Niall bit his lower lip before standing up. "It's Diana, she needs us."
