Emily's eyes widened at the familiar comforting voice that filled her ears, and she couldn't help but let her blood rise up to her cheeks, allowing her cheeks to be tinted red. Niall stood across her in the room, and she was unsure if she should run, or if she should just stay.
She picked the latter.
"Yeah, I'll leave you two," Gabriella said, breaking the silence and Niall was thankful for his clever mind to track down where Emily worked. It wouldn't have been a problem if he cared asking before, but he was clueless and he found himself searching any bookstore that was close to home. Luckily for him, there were only two.
Emily silently murmured a small thank you to Gabriella and she watched as Niall smiled at Gabriella; the girl who helped her come back to his wife whom he had missed ever so dearly. The thought of knowing that Gabriella must've known how horrendous he was towards Emily was slightly worrying, but he couldn't care less; he just wanted to find Emily back.
The silence swallowed them and Emily found herself looking down at her feet, slowly realizing Niall was staring at her, those blue eyes that had haunted her thoughts not so long ago. She looked up, only to find Niall taking a couple of steps towards her; decreasing the distance between them.
All of the words that had emitted in his mind during his search for Emily were now lost and nowhere to be found as Niall tried to talk. It was like the sight of Emily made his thoughts disappear and he just longed to pull her closer to his chest so their heartbeats could play the same rhythm together.
Wow, Emily's poetry was really rubbing onto him.
"E-Emily, w-we need to talk." His words came out in a rush, and Niall found his arms trying to reach out for her, but he quickly contained himself and pulled them back to his sides. Stop stuttering, Horan.
Emily bit her lower lip. "I think I should apologize before hand," her voice was heard within the silence, and Niall couldn't help but let out a smile as he heard her voice -- but he quickly frowned once he mentally grasped what she was trying to do.
"No, no, just let me explain first." His eyes roamed the room and he walked closer to her. "C'mon, can we sit on the bed?" Niall pointed his hand to the slightly unmade bed since Emily was previously laying down on it.
Emily nodded, before stopping herself. "Uhm, do you want water or anything?"
"Nah, it's fine-- just sit down. Please." Niall faintly smiled, admiration written all over his face for this girl who never failed to remain polite.
Emily hesitated at first, but spontaneously plopped herself on the bed, earning a surprised chuckle from Niall who took a seat next to her; not so near but Emily could feel the warmth that he enclosed around him. Emily didn't mind.
Niall fidgeted with his fingers, pressing his nail onto his palm and Emily found herself watching how he nervously licked his lips, most probably thinking on ways to explain. According to books and certain movies that she's watched, she knew it was a guy thing to start conversations first--- but who cares. She's allowed to start a conversation whenever she wanted too, especially when this includes her life and future too.
"So, how are you?" She muttered, her voice still not strongly outspoken, but Niall heard her.
Niall shrugged, turning to his left slightly so she was in his sight. "Well, honestly? I've been better."
Emily nodded, quite intimidated once she was now under his gaze. She licked her lips, trying to think of something to say. "Have you talked to Brittany?"
Niall shook his head, "Nah."
"Why not?" Emily sucked in her lips as his answer somehow made her stomach tingle.
