The ride to Maura's house was awfully quiet, except for the constant chatter between the radio presenters and the friction between the car tires and graveled road. It was quite awkward really, and Niall had no clue how to start the conversation.

After wetting his lips, and deciding to ask her about her day at work, Emily thought she could break the silence, herself.

"Oh my god, this song!" he watched as she turned the volume higher, and bobbed her head up and down to the popular beat that Niall had been familiar to. He watched as she adorably giggled throughout the song and couldn't help but let out a hearty chuckle at how spontaneous Emily was.

He hadn't thought of Emily as a fan of Justin Bieber, but he wasn't complaining. If the Canadian singer made Emily happy, than Niall was pleased to enjoy this fascinating sight. He watched as she murmured the lyrics to the song, so Niall decided to make her feel slightly better.

He sang along.

Niall realized Emily was watching him with a smile on her face, and he decided to continue and he was pleased when he heard her voice increasing in volume. This was good, it felt fun. Something Niall missed having with someone, this sincere and small gesture of playing around to some upbeat song was fun.

As the song ended, the both of them couldn't help but burst into laughter at how goofy they were. Emily watched Niall's profile as his hands were gripping onto the steering wheel and his jawline was definitely well defined. That moment felt incredible, it felt like Niall was finally opening up to her; especially when she was slowly understanding her foggy feelings for him.

"I'm sorry, that was rude of me. It is your car." Emily said, attracting Niall's attention. He looked back and forth between the road and at Emily.

Niall shook his head. "It's nothing Millie. I liked that, we could do it more often." Emily found herself arching her eyebrow at him, and she saw the grin growing on his face.

"We should?" Emily blurted, quickly bringing her palm up to her lips, not really thinking what she was saying.

Niall nodded, "Yeah, we should." he confirmed, and Emily continued to stare at him for another five seconds before turning around to stare out of the window with a wide grin plastered on her face. Her heart felt like it could burst out of her chest.

The silence lingered between them, and Niall took the chance to look at her, before taking in a deep breath. This was the time, he had to apologize.

"Millie," Niall called out, making it seem like a question even though it wasn't. "I am really sorry, I really am. I'm not good at apologies and I really hope you know that I really am sorry. Can we just pretend all of this morning never happened, and start over perhaps?" his voice stuttered at times, and he wasn't sure if he aced his apology at all.

"'I think sometimes when we find love, we pretend it away, or ignore it and tell ourselves we're imagining it; but it is also known as the most painful kind of hope there is.' That's a quote regarding pretending that I've read before." Emily paused to take a look at Niall, and there he was; staring agape at her and she couldn't help but let out a smile.

Niall huffed before jutting his lower lip out. "Please don't put your quotes out on me. I don't understand poetry at all." Emily laughed at how pretentious he was and decided to continue staring at him. She would never get bored of it.

The car halted to a stop and Emily looked up only to see that they had stopped at a traffic light. They were close to Maura's house by now. She looked back at him, and his hand was between them, gesturing for a handshake, perhaps.

Niall cleared his throat. "I'm Niall Horan, and I am your husband. It's wonderful to meet such a beautiful person like you." Emily's eyes glimmered under the moonlight shining onto the car, and Niall watched as her cheekbones were prominent and he couldn't tear his eyes away from her.
