Melinda's POV
The convenient store stared me right in the face as I look up at it. It was much much smaller than the target we had visited only hours ago and I was extremely thankful.
We both agreed on getting in for food. That was it. We went in for food and we came out quickly. The plan was simple, smooth. Smart.
Glass crunched beneath my feet every time I lowered them into the next step. Blood was sprayed along the walls, handprints painted over.
I felt remorse for those that didn't make it out. I felt remorse for those that were to weak and frail. And I even felt some remorse for the ones that had already reanimated into their mindless state.
My small hand balled into a fist, then beat down on the window. Hopefully calling the walkers that were most likely there.
A few minutes pasted, silence was the only thing echoing throughout my ears. No walkers walked forth, so naturally I began to make my way in the small store.
"Hold on" Daryl stuck a hand out and immediately stopped my actions. I look at him for an explanation, but I only saw completely focused face as he stares ahead of him.
"Dar-"
"Sh be quiet." He quickly interrupted me. I began to think of anything that could be happening around us to make him act like this. What was going on in his head to make him act like this. Anything really.
"Stay right here. I'll be right back." He points to the ground at my feet. "Be quiet. And don't move." He said slowly as he jogged into the store.
"Daryl don't-" but before I could get the rest out he had disappeared into the partially darkened store.
I began to think of why he left me here. Why he told me to stay still and put himself in danger.
Again.
I turn and look at the surrounding area, taking in the beautiful scenery that was laid out by Gods hand. The cool wind softly blew past me and a light smile plays at my lips as I enjoy the feeling.
It softly caressed my skin as it blew past, leaving small chill bumps. And I wondered if that's the feeling you got when God himself lays a gentle finger on you. The feeling of warmth and serenity, while also feeling like you were strong and protected.
"We have to go. We have to go now!" Daryl roughly grabs my arm and yanks me to where the wind was nearly knocked from my chest as he pulls me along. I nearly tripped over my own to feet, but I grabbed his arm to give me support as he roughly pulls.
"Daryl what's wrong?" I was in a light jog beside of him as I try to see the emotion in his face. He didn't answer and only jogged faster.
"Daryl!" I said in worry. But again he kept going, not letting his tight grip loosen for a second. "Daryl you're hurting me." I murmur in hopes that he'll let his grip falter in the slightest. But alas, he didn't pay any attention. He looked behind quickly, then back in front of him, like he never looked back to begin with.
"God dammit Daryl! Will you answer me!" I yell as I grab his face and turn it to me. He quickly came to a stop and swatted my hand away.
"Will ye fucking stop?" He barked. "That store back there had walkers crawling around to roof! So many that it would have caved in at any minute! I'm surprised it hasn't already. I'm just trying to get yer ass to safety! God knows what Rick will do if I come back without you!" He scoffed. He rolled his eyes and took long strides away from me, going in the direction of the farm. Pain struck me as I reran the last of what he said through my head.
"So that's the only reason you got me out of there? Because you were worried about what Rick will say?" I rubbed my arm that was now soar from his iron grip and followed just as quickly behind him.
"Yeah, just about." He spat. My mouth dropped at the rudeness of his tone.
"You're so fucking rude. And to think that I was actually starting to like you." I screech in amazement. A loud laugh erupted from him as he turned around and faced me.
"Ye? Actually like a guy like me?" He scoffed. My heart dropped the slightest bit.
"I meant as a person." I stare at the fire in his eyes. "I could never love someone like you." I lie. I quickly made my way past him as I began to let all of this sink in.
A rough hand latched onto my arm, anger boiled within me as I turn with my hand raised. But before any connection was made, a pair of soft lips roughly landed on mine. My hand slowly lowered at the act, and I laid my hand along his chest. My shaky breaths hit his lips as I reached up, once more catching his lips in mine.
I softly opened my eyes to be bet with crystal blue ones. The fire that was once aflame was now calmed. I looked down at my feet instinctively, avoiding the eye contact he rarely gave anyone.
"I'm sorry" he whispered almost immediately. He cleared his throat almost awkwardly and backed away from me, taking his warmth with him.
"It's okay." I said just as quiet. It hurt me that he had to apologize after. That in fact, he didn't really want to kiss me. He didn't want to feel me so close to him. He didn't want anything to do with me.
But as much as it hurt, I wanted everything to do with him.
