Melinda's POV

It's been a few hours sense Daryl and I ventured into the woods. The only noises I could hear were the birds and the occasional twig being snapped by my messy footing. You could tell Daryl was pissed about it because every time he would raise his bow to shoot a squirrel, I would just happen to step in the wrong spot and make a noise. He would give me a look but keep silent. I thank him for that.

It's like he knows what I'm going through. Hell, he does, he wanted to go back to Atlanta to get his idiotic brother. After that he just wanted to be left alone. It's like he went in a shell and just got closed off. He knows that I want quite, to get my thoughts straight. It's the nicest thing he's done for me, other than saving my life on the highway.

We were miles away from the farm by now, but I didn't see either of us turning around just to go back to our problems.

I was walking with my bow low when Daryl grabbed me and held me against the front of his body. He was leaning against a tree as one of his hands covered my mouth and the other was securely around my waist. I could feel his breathe against the back of my neck as I grabbed his arm that was around my waist with both hands. My bow somehow managed to drop in the process.

"Walkers" he whispered in my ear. It sent chills down my spine for him to be so close, but I didn't dare speak. You could hear the walkers by now, and let me tell you, it wasn't a few of them.

The fact that he could hear them from that distance shocks me. It's like he's not even human, like he's, half animal or some shit.

I raise one of my hands to his hand that covered my mouth slowly. I wrap my fingers around his wrist and slowly pulled it down so I can breath through my mouth. In return he wraps it around my top half, gripping my arm lightly. I lean my head back against his shoulder as a walker knocks into the tree we are leaning on. I close my eyes tight and hope it didn't see us. I mindlessly move closer to Daryl, wishing we could just sink into the tree and wait for them all to pass.

I had only been this close to Daryl a few times. It was either from the walkers or our intoxication at the CDC. Either way, it was not intended. But I couldn't help but feel a little safer when someone's with me. Just knowing that I don't have to go through it alone makes me feel better, even if that someone is Daryl.

The walkers slowly started to decrease. Little by little they vanished into the opposite way of the farm.

I rolled my head to the side, my face coming in contact with the side of his. I jolted to the side to get my face further away from his. I whispered a few sorry's as I looked forward again. I don't even know why I apologized, it's not like we kissed or something.

His grip slowly started to loosen until his hands were on my hips. The walkers were gone by now but neither of us moved. Just the fact that we were in that position so long was stunning. I didn't know he could be so caring. He may say that he hates everything and everyone, but his actions just now said he cared the slightest bit.

"Thank you, again" I chuckled, remembering that I said the same thing to him on the highway. I slowly started to walk forward and his hands grazed off of my body. I looked back at him to find he was already looking at me. His features were soft, I had only seen this happen once but it still surprised me how peaceful he looked. So calm, his body was loose instead of tense. I was starring at him again, I really need to stop that. I quickly looked away and started to look for my bow that I had dropped.

Once I found it I started to check for any damage. It seemed to be fine. I held it up and looked through the scope, fixing it so I could see through it. Once I was sure it was set I looked back to find Daryl in the exact position I left him in. His eyes didn't even leave me, they held the same emotion they did minutes ago.
