Melinda's POV

It's been hours since we left the CDC. We ended up dumping the truck a few miles back and the motor cycle seemed to be good on gas, so Daryl took it. I on the other hand would not ride on that death trap. It makes so much noise, I'm surprised we haven't been ambushed by the dead!

There happen to be another seat in the RV, so Dale being Dale, invited me to ride with him.

The plan is to go to Fort Benning. The only problem with that is we are moving farther away from my family. Sooner or later I'm going to have to tell them to go without me. It's going to be hard to part with the people I've come so close to, but I have to think about my family right now.

"Melinda? Honey, wake up, we stopped." I feel a soft hand shake my shoulder. I jolt up and on instinct, reach for my knife. But once I hear the small chuckle I stop myself from plunging it into their skull.

"God, Dale you scared me!" I rubbed my eyes and held in my laugh, trying to be as serious as possible. Once I look up at him I know it's going to be harder to tell him goodbye. He's been the nicest out of the whole group, with the exception of Carol. These people have been nothing but nice and I'm about to leave them in the dust. The only thing I won't miss is Daryl. He knows how to push my buttons in all the right places.

It wasn't until Dale snapped his fingers in my face that I noticed I was starring. I shook my head and put on a small smile, giving him my full attention.

"Did you hear what I said?" He chuckled, sitting in the booth in front of me.

"Of course I did" I lied. Truth is, I didn't even know he was talking, but I didn't want to tell him that.

"Okay, sure." He smiled, obviously picking up on my lie. "Come out and help gather stuff when you're ready." He continued. He patted my hand and stood, going out the door as I soon followed after grabbing my cross bow.

The sun was hot on my skin as I weaved though all the cars trying to find something worth keeping. I had seen some of the group near the RV but I ventured further. Sometimes you just need some time to your self.

As I shuffle through the trunk of a car I start to hear shuffling behind me. I turn around expecting to see a walker but nothing is there. I scrunch my eyebrows in confusion and move to the next car, not finding anything in the last.

The door wouldn't open and there just happen to be a sunroof. Smirking at my little plan, I put my crossbow on the ground and started to climb up on the vehicle. But before I could get to the top an arm grabbed my midsection and the other going over my mouth, pulling me down in the process. I tried pushing them away but they held tighter.

"Get under the car!" They whispered in my ear. It was obviously male. After I didn't immediately respond to them, he turned me around. "There are walkers coming, get down!" Daryl's angry face was mere inches from mine as he growled, while pushing me down. I started to scoot under the car as I heard the moans and smelled the awful stench. Daryl got up and started to jog away before I grabbed his hand and jerked him down. Don't ask me why, I just had a feeling he was going to be stupid and end up dead.

"What the hell?!" He said in a hushed voice as I pulled him under the car with me.

"Shut the fuck up and get under here with me before you get eaten!" I hissed as I pulled him closer. My crossbow was in front of me and his was on his back so if one spotted us we could handle it quietly.

The feet started to shuffle by as I grasp whatever was in my hands tighter. I mindlessly moved more to the center of the car, smashing my body more closer to Daryl. Our bodies were practically on top of each other, like they were at the CDC. But at this time I didn't care, I didn't make a noise, in fear of one hearing me and then we both get eaten alive. My breathing picked up as more and more feet came by. I'm pretty sure my body was shaking at this point. Saying I was scared was an understatement. I didn't know fear could be this large.
