Melinda's POV

The greys and reds reach my eyes and paint a picture of death as I look out at the growing crowd. Their long, skin filled fingernails dig into the wooden fence as they rip it down. Their yellow teeth show as they snap at the cool air. Their growls roll into my ears as they come quickly.

My heart pounded in my chest as I watch the remaining group run out of the house with their weapons. Their bullets fly as they scatter into their own groups to run from the walkers. They had reached the house before I finally realized that my feet were still planted and I hadn't moved.

"Charlie." I whisper in shock. "Charlie!" I shout at the top of my lungs. I started to run but before I even make it five feet from my previous spot, arms stop me.

"We have to go!" Daryl's panicked voice sounds. He starts to pull me in the opposite direction of the walkers. In the opposite direction of my family.

"No we have to go get her! We have to go get my baby!" I turn to look at him in a flash as I beg him. I quickly start to push his hands off of me, silently hoping that he would just let me go to them.

"It's to late. We can't help them now." He grabs my wrist and pulls harder, causing me to turn in his grasp and beat into his chest.

"We have to try!" I give him one last punch before he grunts in pain and let's go. I take the opportunity to turn on my heel and run towards what might be my death.

"I'm sorry darlin'" I hear from behind me before a sharp pain goes to my head and everything goes black.

"Come on. Wake up now." A muffled voice is heard from beside me. A few taps are felt along my cheek as his light fingertips linger there. "Mel, please. Just open yer eyes so I know yer alright."

My head falls to the side in an effort to open my droopy eyes. I heard a sigh from the gentle man beside me.

"What happened?" I merely ask. My limp arm lazily falls next to my head as I rub it's tenderness. I wince as I pull it back, opening my eyes I look to my hand to see the sticky crimson red I had become fairly familiar with. "Did you fucking hit me?" I ask in pure astonishment.

"I had to. It was the only way to get ye away from all of that." He solemnly stated. And that's when the remembrance struck me. The walkers. Everyone running for their lives.

"C-Charlie." I stutter as I shift onto my elbows.

"Mel, I wouldn't-"

"You knocked me out! You pulled me away from getting her!" I sat up fully and began sliding back from him. Tears gathered in my eyes but I didn't let them shed.

I had just gotten her back, and now I've lost her again.

"Mel, please" he reached out to grab my hand but I pulled it away in a flash and shook my head.

"No Daryl! Do you even realize that you just took away one of the only reasons I'm living?" I shriek. His eyes turn cold as he quickly stands to his feet and wipes his pants.

"Stop being so selfish! I saved yer fucking life and all ye can do is bitch about it. And in case ye hadn't noticed, I left my jack ass brother behind too! So yer not the only one that's hurting dammit!" He growls as his beady eyes stare me down. He shook his head and mumbled under his breath as he snatched his crossbow off the ground and turned to face the opposite direction.

A sudden sadness came over me as I think of how foolish I really was being. We had both lost someone today and I was only thinking about myself and my needs. When in reality i should be thinking of the both of us. We were stranded together until we came across the group, and there's no telling how long that could be. There's no telling how much time there is until we get to see our family again.
