Melinda's POV

My head snaps around to the voice. Joe stands tall with his arms crossed over one another. An eyebrow was raised in suspicion.

"Uh." I debate on telling him about Charlie at all. How would I explain that to him. "My little girl." I finally say.

His eyes widen the slightest bit at my answer. He looks me over before adding in a comment.

"I didn't know you and Daryl had a daughter." He takes a seat next me me as I slightly laugh.

"No no, she's not Daryl's. She was my late fiancés." I bit my lip to keep from thinking of him. It still hurt.

"What's her name?" He ask. I could tell he wanted to pry more into the subject of Tyler, but he chose against it with the question.

"Charlotte. But everyone just calls her Charlie." I look down at the dried leaves at my feet as I remember her beautiful face.

"Do you and Daryl plan on having any more?" His question took me by surprise as I snort.

"We've never had sex and we don't plan to. Another child in this world is the last thing we need." I think of the truth at hand. Daryl and I weren't a object, and we never would be. He didn't want someone like me, much less a child with me.

"How do you keep your marriage alive?" He bellows. "No sex? He must be on edge." He chuckles as he pulls out a pack of cigarettes.

I was taken back by his reaction. The rude statement that bubbled out of his mouth made me want to slap my hand across his face.

"For your information. You don't have to have sex to be in a happy relationship. I love him because he makes me feel safe in a world where safe isn't really an option." I spit out. I stand up abruptly and begin to storm away with a trail of profanity.

I hand wraps around my shoulder and I stop immediately at the act.

"Do you really love him?" He says from behind me.

"Yes." I grit my teeth together. "Now get your hands off me." I shake him off as I continue to stomp in the direction of camp.

I was seeing red as I came to a camp fire. I plopped down on the ground next to Daryl and placed my head in my hands.

"I was wondering whe-"

"I told him about Charlie." I cut him off. I rub my hands over my tired face. "He knows that she's Tyler's so that's one last thing you have to worry about." I scoff. I turn my head in the opposite direction of him. He remains silent to my rage.

I feel a nudge to my left shoulder and I roll my eyes. I sigh and turn back to him to see his arm out stretched with a can of peaches.

The anger that possessed my body mere seconds ago seemed to have melted off of me as I see his gesture.

"Thank you." I whisper before grabbing the can. It was about half empty seeing as Daryl had eaten the other half. I ate in silence. Each peach slid down my dry throat smoothly, and I tried to savor the sweet juicy feeling.

"There's a lake just on the other side of that hill if you want to go freshen up. Ladies first." Joe points in the direction he's talking. My eyes turn to slits as I stare at him, still astonished by what he had said to me.

"Thanks." I mumble. I place the now empty can at my feet and stand up, grabbing my bag and weapon at my feet.

I begin to walk to this so called pond, hoping no one had followed me out here in the process.

It wasn't that far as a walk seeing as I got there within a good five minutes.

The lake was small, almost the size of a large pond. The dark blue water stared back at me as I neared it. A cold breeze blew off of the surface as I leaned down to the water.

I searched through my bag and pulled out a nearly half empty water bottle and began to fill it up. The water wasn't as clean as I wanted it to be but there was no room to be picky at a time like this.

"Hey." I jumped around and raised my bow at the voice.

"Dammit Daryl, don't do that!" I growl as I move the hair out of my face. I lay my bow on the ground and scratch at my head in relief.

"Sorry, they said I should be out here with ye." He mumbles as he stands in front of me.

"I can take care of myself." I argue.

"That's what I told them." He turns in the direction of the woods to dismiss the conversation. I shake my head with a light smile before turning back to filling my water bottle.

"So where do you think the governor is right now?" The conversation becomes more serious. He doesn't answer, so I continue. "He's got to know about the farm now. I wonder if he's looking for us."

"Ye." He corrects. I put the cap on my water bottle and lip my dry lips.

"Yeah, me." I whisper.

"He's probably long gone." He adds.

"Probably." I cup the cold water in my hands and splash it on my face. The temperature woke me up the least.

"What are we going to do when we find Rick? Are these people just going to let us go that easy?" I change the topic once again to my worrying thoughts. I put the bottle in my bag and turn to look at Daryl's back.

"I don't know, Mel." He sighs. "We'll just have to wait and see. We ain't found him yet." He adds.

"Alright boys! Make this fast! We've got a ways to go before we make it to town!" I hear a voice yell in the distance. I look up and see joe's group making their way down to the pond.

I then think about how we're ever going to get out of this group.
