Melinda's POV

"We need to get ready for winter. It's getting colder and colder everyday. We're not going to be able to just have a fire at night, we'll have to have one during the day as well, so we're going to have to have two people on look out during the day from now on." Rick explains. From what I could figure out from yesterday, there was only one person guarding during the day and three at night.

"We're going to have to take a trip and get more clothes, try to find food too." He adds. "I plan on a small group going out tomorrow to get what we need. Mike, Melinda, Daryl, and myself. While I'm gone, I'm letting Merle and Glenn watch after everything. Does anyone have anything they'd like to say?" He finishes. Things were silent as everyone looked around at each other.

"We need blankets. Maybe some pillows?" Lori's hopeful voice spoke out.

"Ain't gonna need them if we move again." Carl scoffed. My eyes darted over to the boy as he takes long strides to the back of the house. Beth's soft voice calls his name as she skips after him.

"I'll see what we can find." Rick sighs. Lori gives a thankful nod. "For now? Everyone can just relax." Quiet chattering disperses as everyone files away to do their own thing. I feel Charlie's hand slide from mine as she runs into Maggie's open arms. I give Maggie a nod before she turns and goes into the house.

"You two." Rick turns to Daryl and I. I had just noticed that Daryl was standing a good five feet behind me. "I need for you two to chop wood for me. There's a small place we set up to the left of camp, just outside the fence. It's got axes and wood ready to be split." Daryl grumbles at the thought of manual labor before his brother comes around the corner of the house.

"At least ye don't have to go saw down the tree and drag it back." He lifts an old two person saw in his hand. "And at least ye have two hands." He smirks while holding up the makeshift blade on his right arm. Rick rolls his eyes, probably never hearing the end of that story.

"I forgot to tell you earlier- no one goes outside this fence without a partner. We have to take all precautions." Rick informs, a finger pointed to the said fence.

"That's why the sheriff is coming with me." Merle cackles. "Since we're such best friends." He nudges Rick and passes him the saw. Rick look tiredly at the mans back as he passes, laying the saw across his shoulder and following.

"Don't forget to lock the gate behind you." Rick slides the gate open so the three of us could fit through. "Here's an extra key." He lays it in my opened hand and quickly follows after Merle.

"Well, let's get going then." The lock clicks around the chain, and Daryl passes me, taking the lead.

"Guess this is our new job." White puffs of smoke blow out of my mouth as I grin.

"Welcome home." Daryl sarcastically chirps.

"So how much wood are we supposed to-" I was cut off by a hard blow to the left of me. My back smacks into the nearest tree, a grunt leaves my lips. A rough grip tightens around my arms, a hungry growl could be heard in my ear. The walkers yellow, blood stained teeth chomp in my face. Flashbacks of weeks ago speed through my brain, a scream slips past my lips. My body was paralyzed, all I could do was keep my hands forward on the things chest, keeping it from biting me.

Blood sprays across my face, the end of a blade inches from my eye. The body jolts off of me and hits the ground at my feet. It's cold grip was replaced by Daryl's soft touch.

"Did it bite ye?" He panics. My gaze stays on the lump of flesh at my feet.

"I remember everything." My eyes were wide as I replay it's teeth sinking into my warm skin. I remembered them just staring at me. But I also remembered Daryl.

Look at me baby girl. Stay awake, we can't lose ye.

"Did it bite ye?" Daryl ask more forcefully this time. He grips my shoulders harder.

"I remember it all." I remembered the way he held me in his arms. The desperation in his voice. His eyes pleading for answers.

I can't lose ye.

"I didn't ask ye that." He fumes. His hands skim over my arms and neck, his eyes wander my body, looking and feeling for any danger.

Yer going to make it out of this just fine.

His voice rang in my head as I played it over and over again. I could still feel his touch on my body.

"I remember it all. I remember the walker coming after me. I remember them just looking at me." I could see the pain in his eyes as he thinks back to the moment. "I remember you there, I remember everything you said to me." His hands slide off my shoulders in defeat. "Thank you." I whisper.

I remembered his soft voice in my ear right before it went dark. It was just another thing to add to the list to show how much he cared.
