A Korean Night

***

"Alright, I'll be there in a minute." Yun lang ang sinabi niya bago niya binaba ang telepono. Ni hindi niya ako binigyan ng pagkakataon na makapagpaalam lang sa kanya or magsalita man lang, binabaan na agad ako. We agreed to see each other to a certain coffee shop somewhere in downtown Seoul. I sat down on the small couch, gripping my clutch bag tightly. I was wondering what is happening to me? Why do I feel so frustrated when he doesn't give me any chance to talk? Why do I feel so nervous even though it's just a usual dinner with Thaddeus? Lord, why do I feel so indifferent right now? Why do I feel like I'm falling into an empty void, leading me to nowhere?

"Miss Kim." I startled in my seat as I heard his most soft voice, gently soothes deep inside of me. I stand up from my seat and turn to the place where the voice came from. A mature, handsome and manly Thaddeus came into the picture of the busy coffee shop. The people around us was already in a blur as soon as my eyes caught his presence. He was wearing a black tux matched with a white button down shirt complimented by his black necktie as well. He stared at me deep into my eyes and so was I. The stares are so deep, like he's seeing my soul through my eyes. He starts to take large footsteps until he stands across me. I feel his touch on my lower jaw, making me breathe sharply smelling his dark, musky cologne. I could feel the gentleness of his touch, my body is very responsive about it. He murmurs against my lips saying, "Good evening."

"H-hi." I greeted shyly. "How was your day, Thad?" I asked, closing my eyes as I keep my sense of sanity in place and as I open back my eyes, his pair of brown, expressive eyes met mine. He never stopped to stare at me, intently. His touch went to my rosy cheeks, cupping it very lightly. I tried not to flinch from his touch.

"Well, it was pretty great. Thank you for asking." He answers, politely dropping his hand from my face. "I visited Christian, Aubrey and their baby girl earlier. How about you? How was your day? And oh, by the way, is your mother here with you? I just want to ask her something."

"Pretty fine, thanks." I smiled at him. "Ah, she left about fifteen minutes ago. Should I call her to inquire her whereabouts?"

"No, that's okay. Don't bother. I'll just call her later." He murmurs as he picked my silver clutch bag and gave it to me. "Shall we, Miss Kim?" He looked into my eyes again and smiled; offering his shoulder for me to cling on.

When I tried it on, it fits me perfectly like it was personally made for me. The dress is simple yet it was so beautiful, very appealing to my eyes and it boosts my self-confidence as soon as I tried it. It really suited my taste. She puts a silver necklace around my neck and looked at me through the mirror we are facing right now.

"What's this for, Ma? I'm just getting a dinner with Thad." I murmur. "I'm already fine with the dress."

"Is that a look of a person who's not in love?" She chuckles a little, changing the topic. Me? In love? That's absurdity. "Oh the blush on her cheeks, that smile on her face, her trembling hands and her daydreaming with the lucky guy." She said in a sing-song voice.

"What are you singing mom? Is that an old song from the fifties?" Mom was weird. Let me rephrase that, she is very weird. Or maybe somehow she's right. I am starting to get weird. Yes, I am smiling for no reason, yet my hands are trembling, shaking in fear I guess; and I'm just thinking about the dinner tonight. Why the hell he invited me for dinner? Is there any occasion to be celebrated? Oh, there's one thing mom isn't right. I'm not blushing. I am not.
