Ashton's POV
I wake up the next morning and look around, trying to figure out where I am. Then I realize I'm on the couch, with Luke. And my mom is upstairs..
I start shaking Luke awake quickly, "Hey. Baby. You gotta go before my mom gets up." I say, trying to get him out. She's always worse when she has a hangover and I don't want him to see that.
"Why? She knows we're together and besides, she's hungover. She won't be up for hours."
Just as he says that, a door slams from upstairs. I cringe, knowing it's my mother and I'm to late.
She stomps down the stairs, but freezes when she sees Luke and I sitting on the couch. I'm frozen as well, not knowing what to do.
"Hello ma'am." Luke says, trying to make this less awkward, but he just doesn't get my mother yet. My breath hitches and my mother's eyes change slightly. Something I've seen far to many times before sparks up.
She begins walking over to the couch, swaying her hips. She sits down, far to close to Luke and sets her hand on his upper thigh, unreasonably close to his middle. "What is such a hot man doing with my whore of a daughter when he could have me?" She whispers in his ear.
He pulls away quickly, moving as far away from her as he can. "Ma'am, with all due respect, you are 20 years older than me. I love your daughter. And if she's a whore, what does that make you?" He spits the last part. "Yeah, sorry, not much respect is due." He adds with a dark look in his eyes.
My mother gasps and slaps him across the face. He just sits there, shocked. I stand up, moving myself in front of Luke. "Mom, why don't you go get dressed? I was just about to wake the kids and start breakfast." I say, trying to run away from my problems as always.
"What? Now that you have a boyfriend you're the perfect daughter all of a sudden? There's no problems in your world so you're the problem solver for the rest of us?" She says, venom laced in her voice as she stands up.
"Mom. Don't. You know nothing has changed since I've been with Luke. I'm just getting some help now." I say, tears forming in my eyes as I stand as well.
"Ashton, do you wanna come over to mine?" Luke asks, doing the best he can to get me out of this situation.
I know my siblings are all upstairs and probably not asleep anymore. I can't. I say exactly that.
Luke nods in understanding, moving himself slightly in front of me.
Just then, my mom steps forward quickly and smacks me across my face. Luke gasps, shocked. And I freeze. She's never done that before.
Just as I bring my hand to my face, Evan steps into the room, looking at my mother accusingly.
"Did you just hit her?" He asks knowingly.
She stands there with a little smirk on her face. "Yeah. Gonna do something?" She asks.
Evan won't hit her. Yelling at her won't help. He can't do anything. And she knows that. "Yeah." He says, picking up his coat and walking toward the door. "I'm sorry Ashton. It has to happen." He says before he leaves.
I stand there shocked, trying to figure out what he meant. I look at Luke questioningly. He looks just as confused as me.
Then, it clicks.
He's going to social services.
They're going to put my entire family in foster homes.
I'm going to be on the streets.
