Tobin's POV

We got back to the van late that night, and drove into the underground city.

"Will we ever find them?" Alex groans, leaning into me.

"Lex, we've only been looking for one day. Not even a day" I grin. "You can't lose hope that easily"

"But we searched everywhere" She sighs.

"Actually no" Marc intervenes. "We've only searched one third of the city"

"See? We can still find them" I kiss her cheek, and she smiles.

"I guess so" She kissed me.

"Ewww, grodie" Eli teases, and we laugh.

"Where are you staying, Eli?" I ask.

"I'm staying with my friends back at the orphanage, because my dad can't take care of me, and I have no relatives left" He looks down.

"Would you like to have a room back at the place we're staying? I'm sure Marc can arrange something for you" I say, and Marc nods.

"That would be great. There are almost a hundred kids in that orphanage without the girls" He said, blushing a little at the girls part.

"Do you have someone special back there?" I ask, raising my eyebrow.

He grins.

"Special is an understatement" He tells me.

"Whats her name?" I ask.

"Kaitlyn, but I call her Kait" Eli says.

"She's an orphan?" I ask.

"Nah" He says, running his finger along the assortment of knives. "Most of them back there are in the same position as me. Parents can't afford or can't care for us anymore"

"Must be rough" Alex says, and he nods.

"Theres talk of kicking some kids out. Its getting too full" He tells us. "They're going to send the older kids out to make room for the younger ones"

"Thats not fair" Alex pouts.

"Nope" Eli shrugs. "But it ain't my decision to make"

"I guess not" I say, looking out at the still bright underground city.

"Thats why I was happy about you letting me on the team. Otherwise I would've had to work somewhere nasty like a coal mine" Eli smiles.

"You are one little ray of sunshine. Who couldn't smile when around you?" I ask.

"I bet Hope wouldn't. She hardly smiles" Alex laughs, and I join in.

"Hope Solo?" Eli questions.

"Thats right. Hope Solo. The big badass goalkeeper" Alex grins.

Back at our room, I can't help but think if our careers in soccer are over.

"What're you thinking about Toby?" Alex asks, breaking my train of thought.

"If we're done playing soccer. Forever" I say, and she pauses in thought.

"I don't know. I hope not, because I enjoyed every minute of you on my team. It was amazing. But even if it all ended right now, I wouldn't mind, because I'm still with you" She trails her fingers along my arm.

"But what about the rest of the girls? And Kelley and Megan who are captured" I ask.

I hate that word.
