"You were with her?" Tobin bursts.
"When?" Alex asked.
"Is she alive?" Moe asks.
The questions seemed like they would never end.
"Uh excuse my harshness but SHUT UP!" Eli yelled.
Everyone silenced.
"Thanks kid" Amy nodded to Eli, who smiled to Amy.
"Now please, tell us what happened" Eli asked in a civilized way.
"Well, since you asked ever-so-nicely, I'll tell you" Amy said, her face hardening. "We were heading towards the empire state building, where there were rumors about the team being there. Next thing I knew, was that we were being jumped. Guys jumped out of the building like cold air flowing through an open door. It was scary. I fired a round at them, but then I got knocked out. I guess they thought I was dead, so they left me alone, and I guess they took Christen" Amy took a deep, shaky breath. "I told her I'd get her back to Julie unharmed and unscathed. I guess I broke my promise. There is no way I'd get her there with this" She pulled the covers off, and Tobin's mouth fell open.
Her legs were in casts, showing they were broken.
Duh.
"Amy, I'm so sorry about what happened" Tobin kneeled by her bed.
"Tobs, don't worry about it. Just get me outa here so I can hang with you guys" Amy said.
"Marc?" Tobin looks to Marc for assistance. He nods and leaves the room.
Not a minute later he comes back with a wheelchair.
"Come on, up you go" Tobin says, as she and Alex help Amy out of the bed, and into the chair. Amy grimaces at the pain.
"Sorry I can't help. But you know, my arm is screwed up" Moe says, and Amy nods.
"Dont hurt yourself Moe" Amy smiled.
"Too late" Moe grinned.
"Hey Marc, do you have any quiet places? I'd like to speak to my friend Amy for a quick moment. Alone" Tobin asked Marc.
"How about I just have everyone leave the room? Would that help?" He asks.
"Yeah. That would be great" Tobin said, and Marc ushered everyone out.
"What is it you want to talk about?" Amy asked.
"About me. I'm going crazy Amy. I can feel it. I'm not stable anymore" Tobin crouches, leaning on her heels. Amy frowns.
"What do you mean?" Amy asks.
"Thats exactly what I mean. I'm going insane. I'll end up like Servando by the time I die" Tobin places her hands over her head.
"Don't say that" Amy says, suddenly a little nervous around Tobin. She tenses up.
"See? Look. You're even scared of me" Tobin groaned.
"Because you're scaring me with all this going crazy talk. You won't go crazy" Amy held out her hand, and Tobin held it.
"I'm scaring myself" Tobin grinned. "I hopefully won't go crazy"
"Hopefully not" Amy grinned. "Now lets get out of here"
"Good idea" Tobin wheeled her out of the room.
"Everything alright?" Alex asked Tobin, when they got into the van.
"Sure-I mean, yeah" Tobin said. She wasn't paying attention.
"Seriously Tobin. You're acting like you've been somewhere else lately" Alex says, worry on her face.
"Well, I'm still here. For now" Tobin smiled, but it wasn't convincing enough.
"Tobin. I need you to tell me whats going on. I'll give you until tonight to sort things out. Then you tell me" Alex said, and Tobin nodded, taking a long breath in.
Later that day...
"Hey Tobin, Alex. We're heading to the empire state building tonight" Marc said. "Be ready for anything"
"Will do Marc. Will do" Tobin smiled, then turned to Alex.
"Tell me when we get back" Alex said, and Tobin nodded.
Little did they know that when they got into the van, it would be the scariest ride of their life.
