My pencil scratches at the notebook paper, the lines blurring as my mind drifts to sleep.

The light goes out in the hallway, someone calling out a quick goodnight before sleep comes and takes over the house.

Tyde whispers something to someone on the phone in his bedroom, the sound barely carrying through the walls.

I draw a line through the words, remembering the curve of Connor's smile, the light in his eyes, the way he nods as he speaks when he's excited.

I cross out the words again, my mind occupied with the sea and the sky and all the colors of shooting stars.
