I don't know how or why Julian has my phone number.

I never changed it after moving; I've had the same number since sixth grade when everyone was first getting phones and so we all trading with anyone and everyone we knew, so that was probably why. I have his, too - his first name and last name and a basketball emoji. We all believed that putting an emoji next a contact was a sign of friendship, just because Julian and the other popular boys did it. So I figured, then, that if I put an emoji next to his, I would become one of them. I could avoid the social pit of losers that my best friend was falling into and save him too. I didn't, but at the time I thought I would and that little bit of hope is enough.

He texts me on Monday morning.

troye im sry i ddnt mean 2 scare u or anything i just wanted to say sorry for everything i did to you

He should be sorry.
