Chapter 15: Don't Go

Kyle and I sit across from Kane and Jason. "Alexa, if you go through with Kyle, you'll have to fight the girls to keep being their Alpha Female." Kyle keeps a death grip on my thigh. Kyle, let go. He's making you fight. I'm an Alpha, Kyle. I will fight. He shoots me a look, "If she backs out or loses, what happens?" Kane looks at him, "She won't lose." "But if she did?" "Your choice." Kyle turns to me and I keep my eyes on his. What do I do? I won't lose. But if you do... Kyle, Echo's a fighter. Especially for her mate and pack. Now I'm your mate? Not yet, until we complete our bond. When will that be? When we have a home. Lex, we shouldn't fight. What? Why? Kane isn't telling you part of it. What part? If you allow yourself to fight, you lose Kyle and will have to be with Luke... Or Jason. So, I have to give up my rank as Alpha Female. Yeah. If you want to keep Kyle. Of course I do! I'm already falling in love with him Echo. I know. I can feel it. I blink and Kane snaps his fingers in my face. "Earth to Alexa." I bite his hand and he pulls back. "Did you hear anything I said, Lex?" I shake my head. "I said you have to either fight and stay an Alpha, or back out and become an Enforcer." I look at Kyle, "You're not telling me something." I say, turning to Kane. "I'm telling you everything." He says, and I can smell the lie. "I can smell you're lying." "Fine." He takes a breath, "If you fight to stay Alpha, you give up being with Kyle. If you don't, you keep Kyle but become an Enforcer." I look to Kyle, but he keeps looking down. Kyle... Choose your pack. It's fine. It's not fine! I love you... I look at him still, and he turns to me. His dark brown eyes have a ring of green. Great Lex. You woke his wolf. I didn't mean to. I know but now, he might want to complete the bond. "Kane, I'm going to fight. But I'm staying with Kyle." "Lex, you can't do that." "He has more power than an Alpha. It doesn't matter if I win or don't." Kane shakes his head, "I'm following the pack laws, Lex." "No Kane. You're not!" I scream, standing up. "You've always wanted me to be alone, didn't you?" I scream, tears rushing down my face. "I didn't want what happened to Mom happen to you, Alexa!" He yells, getting up. Kyle holds me against his chest moving from side to side, trying to calm me. "What happened to Mom, Kane?" "The exact same thing happening to you. Her other possible mate was an Enforcer. But was from King Chase's pack. She was forced to choose between Dad, or the Enforcer. She chose Dad, and fought off the females in the pack. Our dad was King Chase's step-brother, from when King Chase's mom passed on. Our grandmother became mated to the King, even when she already had Dad. Kane tells me through the mind link. I look at him then rest my head on Kyle, my Enforcer mate. "Kane, I'm fighting and keeping Kyle." He sighs, "Fine. But don't tell anyone what I'm doing." I look at Kyle and smile, "Oh, and Kane. I want to do the Bonding Ceremony tomorrow." His eyes get the ring of blue and he growls, "Already?" "Kane, you gave me a day." He nods, "Then why don't we go into town later?" Kyle moves from me, "Alpha, I'm gonna go with Liam right now. If I may?" He says respectfully, but his eyes have the ring of green. Kane smirks, "Sure. But take Luke." I look at Kane in horror and anger. "Don't you dare, Kane." "Oh, I dare." I walk up to my brother, and pull my hand back. The slap is audible and he holds his cheek. "You better watch it Alexa." "No Kane! You better watch it! Kyle can and will win a fight against you, so stop!" Instead of the ring of blue on his eyes, they are all blue. I feel Echo rising and I bare sharp fangs at Kane. He snarls and everyone circles around. I shift and Kane follows. I hear another and I turn, seeing Kyle. What are you doing? Protecting you. He says and stands in front of me. Wow Lex, need protection from your Enforcer? Kane snaps. Leave her alone, Kane. Kyle growls. Kyle... I say softly, moving to stand beside him. Kane, you're my brother. We shouldn't be fighting like this. Why not? This is the law of the wolf. He growls. This isn't right. I say, and sit down. Kyle sits beside me, and I lean into him. Kane slowly caves and shifts back, and I shift. I look at him for a moment, then hug him. Tears rush down my face and he runs his hand down my hair. "I'm sorry, Kane. I'm so sorry." "I am too, baby sister. I shouldn't have snapped." "We're not ordinary Alphas, Kane. We have heightened emotions. Remember that." I say and turn to Kyle, but he's nowhere to be seen. Kyle... Where are you? Does it matter? Yes! I need you. Sure. You're just like the other Alpha Females. What do you mean by that? Crave power. I don't! You do, Alexa! I'm done. I'm not going to fight with you, cause Echo will hate me. Alexa, find him. Why? He's our mate. I know it. I don't know right now. He's hurt. That you can easily go to the others. I hugged my brother! What's wrong with that? He's your mate! He wants to be the one to hold you when you cry, make you laugh when your sad, wants to cry with you, laugh with you. He wants to be with you. Didn't seem like it. Stupid stubborn hardheaded girl. Shut up Echo! Fine, but don't call for me later. Trust me. I won't.

1 week later*
I sit, holding my knees to my chest. "He needs to come back." Elle growls, hugging me. "He does! This isn't fair to her." Kaye says, rubbing my back. "He's an idiot, Lex." Briar says, sitting beside Kaye. "The idiot still hasn't returned?" Liam asks, sitting in front of me. "Alexa, I've been trying to contact Kyle but he has his walls up." I barely nod my head before I feel sick again. Elle helps me move away, and holds my hair back. I throw up the little food Kaye managed to feed me. Kane snarls, "This is too much. We need to find him before my sister dies from this." Liam nods and gets up. "Kyle just got here. He doesn't know the area well. It should make it easier." Liam says. "Unless he left home." I barely manage to say. Kane growls, "Liam, would he ever go back?" "I'm not really sure. He got hurt. And he does stupid things when he's hurt." "What kind of stupid things?" Liam shifts from foot to foot, and keeps his head and eyes down. "Liam, what kind of stupid things?" He still doesn't answer Kane, "Dammit answer me!" "He sleeps around. Any hot girl he sees, he goes after." When Liam says that, my heart shatters more and I feel more tears starting. The day after Kyle left, Kane had bought the land and a large home down the road. The girls had put me as close to the fireplace as possible, and Kane had lit it. And that was where I laid with my best friends, slowly dying because my mate got hurt. Luke keeps sending me glances, and I shut my eyes. "Alpha, do you think he's hiding out on the pack land, but in wolf form?" Dec says. Kane smiles, "That's the best idea you've ever had Dec." Dec raises an eyebrow but laughs. "Jason, and Liam. You two take the border against the AshPeak border. Dec and Luke, check the western border. Bren and I will take the east. We will go with Dec and Luke on the south border. Got it?" They all nod, "Girls, take Alexa upstairs. One of the other fireplaces is already on. Go to her room." They nod and help me up. Kane kisses my forehead, "I'll bring him back. I promise." I nod, and they walk me up the stairs. I hear the backdoor open and slam shut. Soon a chorus of howls rise and Elle giggles. "It's funny." "What is?" Briar snaps. "That they're howling and it's a full moon outside." Briar makes an o shape and then laughs. I groan as the pain in my head intensifies. "They need to find him soon." Kaye says, tears welling up in her eyes. I try to say something but I lay my head back down on the pillow. Alexa, I wish I could make him come back. I know Echo. I know, but he left us. I can make him come back, but I don't know if it would work. What was your idea? I could howl, and call him back. Again? We tried that already. It's just, I know you need him but he won't budge. I'm slowly dying Echo. The whole pack can feel it. He gave up on me. On us. He's hurting Lex. He left his dad, and the place he knew as home. But he's happy. You chose him. You can have any male in the pack, and you chose him. It doesn't seem as if even wants me anymore. I'll always want you. Kyle? I'm here. Where? Almost home. I promise. You better be. How I missed your spunk. How I missed your sarcasm. "Alexa!"Kaye yells. I blink, "Y-yeah?" "Kane just mind linked me. They've found Kyle." "I know." "How?" I smile softly, "He mind linked me." She squeals, "He can fix you!" I cover my ears, "I'm still dying, Kaye." "Oh, sorry. But Kyle can help you now." I shake my head, "We have to complete the bond. Until then, I'm still dying." She sniffles, "I can't lose my best friend and Alpha." "One of you will take over. It won't be that bad." Kaye hugs me, "I don't want to lose anyone." I shut my eyes, but the pain goes away slightly. I pass out like I have been for the past week. I feel someone put an arm under my knees and the other behind my back. They start walking and open a door. They lay me on a satin sheet bed and I hear them lay beside me. They lift my head and rest it on their arm. I curl closer and I feel the growl rumble from their chest. They stroke my hair and I hear a clank. I open my eye and see Ghost sitting at the foot of the bed. I look at my feet and see them tangled with someone else's. I look up, and see that familiar one sided grin I'm falling in love with. "Kyle..." I say, and pass out.
