Chapter 22: They've Arrived

  "I wonder how Ryder looks." I tell Briar, Elle, and Kaye as we sit on the sofa. "Me too and just from that picture, it looks like he's changed a lot." Elle says, and we nod. "I'm actually scared of him." Kaye says and I laugh, "He's not all that bad actually. Just an ass." Kaye laughs and I snicker. "Alexa, that's not a way to speak about the Prince." Kane says, squeezing his hand around the back of my neck. "But it is, brother. He did allow his father to kick us out of our own territory." I say and he growls. "Don't remind me." He says, leaving. I laugh after him, and Kaye smacks my knee. "Hey!" I yell. I pull the hem of my sweater dress down a little. "It's not going to go down any further." Kaye says, and I huff. I cross my legs, and shift around uncomfortably. "You okay?" Briar asks me and I nod, "I'm fine. Just a slight stomachache. Probably nervous." I say, rubbing at my stomach. She narrows her eyes in suspicion, but shakes her head. "When are they coming?" Elle complains and I growl. "They'll get here when they get here." I say, and she rolls her eyes. "Alexa!" Kane calls. "I'll be back." I say, rising. I follow the sound of his voice to his office. "What Kane?" I ask, standing with my back against the closed doors. "Are you okay?" He asks and I scoff. "Really Kane? You killed Kyle and expect me to be okay?" I ask, my voice raising with every word. "No, actually I don't. I f*cked up and I made him pay for it. But I can't go back in time and bring him back now can I?" He snaps. "I'm leaving. My stomach hurts and you're giving me a headache." I say, turning to open the door.. "Wait. You said your stomach hurts?" He asks quickly. "I like, just said that." I say, turning back around. "I'm calling Lance over, if Ace will let him come." He says, pulling the phone off the hook. "No Kane. It's called being heartbroken." I say, taking the phone out his hand and slamming it back onto the hook. "Fine. But don't come crying to me when it hurts more." He growls. "Oh, I won't." I snarl and leave.
I plop down next to Liam and lean my head back onto the couch and close my eyes. "What happened?" He asks, mimicking me. "Kane happened." I reply, not opening my eyes. "What'd he do now?" He asks with a hint of laughter in his voice. "He asked me if I'm okay. Then I said I was going to leave because my stomach is hurting. He freaked out and went to call Lance. And he got all pissy because I said no. Like I don't want anyone involved, y'know?" I say, sitting up. "Yeah, but he's just worried about you. Kane's taking care of his family." Liam says, placing his hand on my knee. I smile at him and lean my head onto his shoulder. "Slut." I hear someone whisper in my ear. I turn and see Jason smirking. I stand up and come up to his face. I lift my hand and slap him hard across the face. His eyes are black and a savage growl comes from his lips. Liam stands in between us, "Lex, go upstairs and lock the door to your room." He says. "O-Okay." I stutter and run off.
As I run up the stairs, I feel slight cramps and I groan. I look behind me and see a wolf. "Alexa run! Jason!" Liam yells and I go faster. I trip on the last step and fall down. I try to shift, but Echo is still not responding to me. "Dammit." I cry out, seeing Jason stalking forward. I move back on my hands towards the wall. He leaps forward and I raise my arms, covering my face and body and shut my eyes. I wait for his bite and I lower my arms, opening my eyes. I see Liam's white wolf fighting Jason. I scramble up but fall back onto my butt. Liam keeps his jaws wrapped securely around Jason's throat and Kane comes running. "What happened?" He asks me, helping me up. "Jason happened." I growl, tears welling up in my eyes. "Liam, let him go." Kane says, and Liam reluctantly lets go. They both shift back, and blood covers them both. "Shower and change. Then come to my office." Kane orders them and they walk away, heads bowed. "Come on." Kane says, walking me to his office. "Where are the girls?" I ask, noticing they were gone. "I asked them to go to your house to take care of Ghost and Zan." Kane answers, not looking up from his computer. I sit down in one of the chairs, and pull out my phone. "Kane, when does the King arrive?" I ask, not looking up. "In a few minutes." He says then stops. "F*ck! I have to change."He says and I look at him. "You have a dress shirt and jeans. You look fine." I say, and he laughs. "Not for the King. For Ace, yes. King Chase, I look bad." He says, and presses a kiss to my forehead. "Wait with the two idiots okay?" He says, leaving. I just nod, and sit down in his seat.
