Chapter 23: What?!

Alexa's P.O.V
I wake up to a pounding headache and a strong urge of nausea. I run into the bathroom and throw up all of my stomach's contents. I wipe my mouth with the back of my hand and brush my teeth. I look at myself in the mirror and see the bags under my eyes. "I think I should tell Kane." I say to myself as I return to my room. I pull down my shirt to cover more of my legs before I go to see if Jake's awake.
I knock on his door and it opens quick. "Morning." He says, leaning against the doorframe. "Good morning. Did you sleep well?" I ask politely, even though I feel his blue eyes roaming. "Yes, actually. Thanks for asking." He replies, stepping forward. I take a step back, "Well get dressed. Breakfast is in ten." I say, walking quickly back to my room. I shower really quick and put on a black off-the-shoulder long sleeved dress and my black peep toe heels. I put on my heart shape ring, my black velvet choker, and my black teardrop earrings. I fix my wavy hair to spill over my shoulders. I put no make-up and walk out, phone in hand. I head out but knock on his door. "Hurry up. I'm heading out now." I say, going down the stairs. He comes after me and I turn. He was wearing a basic shirt jeans, and Converse. I sigh but open the door. "Come on." I say, and he walks out. I follow and we go up the trail to the pack house, where bacon and steak scent was coming from. "Kaye's probably cooking then." I say loudly, and he only nods. I resist my growl and just move quickly past him. "Kaye! You cooking?" I call. "You know it!" She yells back. I go into the kitchen and see her, Briar, and Elle cooking. "Hey girlies." I say, and Briar growls playfully. "Do you know where Kane is?" I ask. "In his office I think, why?" Kaye asks, turning to look at me. "I've been feeling really tired and I threw up this morning. I'm scared I'm sick with something." I say, and Jake's eyes widen and he leaves the room. "Strange, but I'll be back. Have to talk to Kane." I say, going up the stairs.
I knock and Kane opens the door. "Lex, come in." He says, stepping out of the way. I take a seat in one of the chairs and Kane sits behind his desk, "What brings you here this morning?" He asks. "I've been really tired lately, and I threw up this morning." I explain and he nods, then grabs the phone. "I'll call Lance, okay?" He asks and I only nod, scared something was really wrong with me. "He said he'll be by soon, and for you not to move too much." Kane tells me as he hangs up the phone. "Okay, so be careful?" I ask and he nods, "Very careful." I blink and get up. I open the door and crash into Ryder. "I'm sorry, my Prince." I say, looking down. He grunts and moves past me. I keep my eyes down until someone tilts my head up. "Liam." I smile and he hugs me. "You okay? Kaye told me how you've been feeling." He asks me, and I keep my head on his shoulder. "I'm fine, just really tired lately and I threw up again this morning." I say, and he rests his chin on top of my head and I take in his scent. "Come on. Breakfast time." He says, taking my hand in his. He doesn't intertwine our fingers but just holds our hands. "You look nice today." He says in my ear and I blush, looking away. Everyone looks at our hands and I look down. "Told you she was a slut." Jason barks and Kane smacks the back of his head, "That's enough, Jason." Kane growls and glares him down. Jason submits quickly but gives me a look. The King looks at us with interest and I squirm under his gaze. "Alexa, sit with me." The King says, holding his hand out. I look up at Liam but take the King's hand. He seats me beside him, and Liam sits on the opposite side. I look to his direction, but a slight tug on my hand reminds me of who wants my attention. "Alexa, are you and Liam an item?" The King asks and I shake my head quickly. "No. Good friends, yes. An item, no." I say, then look at Liam. His eyes are darker and I panic. "Kane, when does Lance arrive?" I ask. "In about twenty minutes, why?" Kane asks me, and I shrug. "Just wondering." I say and the King looks between us. "Who is Lance?" He asks. "He's an older wolf from the AshPeak pack, a friend to the pack." Kane explains and the King nods. "You do know what happens when rival packs become friends." The King says and Kane nods his head once but I can feel his annoyance. "Liam, I want you to go with Alexa to Ace's home. Lance can't run long." Kane says and Liam just nods.
