Chapter 33: And You Are?

I shift back to see Kane hugging a guy an inch taller than him. "Ash, it's been too long." He says. "Yes. It has Kane." The guy returns.
The other guy, standing behind the first, has his hands stuffed deep in his pockets. They turn to look at me and Kane forces a smile. "Alexa, I thought I told you to wait inside." He says and I lower my eyes. "Mine." Someone says and I feel strong arms wrap around me, and pull me against them. Kane growls and I look up into captivating dark brown eyes. I try to get away but instead, his arms tighten. "Let me go." I growl and he chuckles. "Sorry love. Not happening." He growls back smugly and I glare at him.
Typical Alphas.

Kane rips me out of Brown Eyes's arms and he snarls. "Mine." He growls again and tries to get me again. I sidestep him and his eyes are becoming a black blue. I feel Echo rising but I reign her in.
C'mon Lex. Let me at him.
No! If he's our mate, why would you fight him?
I'm not going to attack him. Just test him.
I still don't trust you.
He takes hold of me and buries his head in my hair, and I feel him inhaling my scent. He rubs his cheek against the side of my face and I slowly wrap my arms around him, pulling him closer and his body loosens up. Kane growls and I tries to peel me away, but he keeps his arms tightly around me. "Ash, let my sister go." Kane growls and tries to pull me away. Ash shifts and snaps at Kane's hands. The other guy shifts and butts his head against Ash's. "Run inside. Hurry." Kane whispers quickly in my ear and I nod. I sneak past Ash and make a break for it. His head snaps up and he chases right at my heels. I let the door slam shut behind me and he crashes into it. I run upstairs and open the door to my room. Kaye, Briar, and Elle stand up when I slam it shut behind me and press my back against the door. I slide down to sit on the ground and they sniff. "Who's scent is that?" Kaye asks and looks at me. "Friend of Kane's, that also happens to be my true mate." I answer and hear a loud howl, beckoning me. I freeze and they look at me again, "You better go." Elle says, pointing to the door. I huff but listen. I open the door and tiptoe back downstairs. "Alexa!" Kane yells and I open the front door. A large black wolf looks up at me and I know it's Ash by those black eyes. I shift and sniff his neck. He raises his head higher and I realize how much smaller I am to him.
A whole foot in human.
A lot of inches in wolf.
I know Echo.
I rub my head against his side and I feel him nuzzle my neck. "Well if you two are done, I'd like to have dinner." I hear Kane growl angrily. I look at him and his lips are pulled into a tight line.
We'll be right in. I promise.
Fine. Five minutes.

Kane walks into the house, leaving us alone. Ash growls and I know exactly what he wants; for me to submit. I stay still and he leaps forward, wrapping his jaws around my throat. I struggle beneath him and I know if he moved the fang that was pressing against my windpipe, I'd be dead.
Just submit to me. I don't want to hurt you.
I curl my tail against my body and avert my eyes. I bare my throat and he lets go. He licks my muzzle and rubs against my cheek. A low whine comes from the back of my throat and he continues to nuzzle my cheek. I shift back and he follows. I keep my eyes averted and he tilts my head up using his thumb and forefinger. "Don't. You're my equal." He says. "But I submitted to you." I say quietly. "Yes, but I wanted to test you." He smirks. "I did too. You failed." I smirk back and make my way to the house, but he grabs my arm. "I don't fail things." He says and I laugh. "Sure you don't. But I have to go get dressed for dinner." I say and walk around the pack house towards my own home. "Where you going? I thought you were going to get dressed." He says confused. "I am. I have my own home." I throw over my shoulder. I hear him stop and I turn. His eyes are changing from dark brown to black. "Ash." I say and he stares into my eyes. I walk forward and I take his head in my hands, and he shuts his eyes closed. I caress the side of his face and he opens his eyes. He pulls me against him and I blink. I pull away and he looks down. "Come on. I think I have clothes for you to borrow." I say and he growls. "There was a male staying with you before?" He asks. "Yes, but my mate's dead." I say quietly and I look down to not let him see my tears. Warm arms embrace me and I sink into him, sobbing. "Don't cry, love. Please don't." He whispers against my hair and it makes me cry more. "I lost our child. I lost him." I scream and he rubs my back. I lay my head over his heart and he presses a feather soft kiss to the top of my head. "I don't know anything about what happened but I'll be here to support you, as your mate." He whispers and I nod, sniffling. "Come on. Dinner's in an hour." I say and he takes my hand in his. I smile softly at him and we walk to my house.

I quickly dress into a red and black lace dress and heels. I grab my clutch and check that I have my phone and wallet. I walk down the stairs and Ash looks up at me. He takes my hand and twirls me around. "You look stunning." He says and presses a kiss to my knuckles, making me blush scarlet. He loops my arm through his and we walk out.
Hey Lex. We are going out tonight for dinner. Meet me out front.
Ok.
"C'mon. Kane needs us out front." I say and start running. I feel his arms slip under me and lift. "Ash!" I squeal in surprise. He chuckles and I feel the vibration coming from his chest. Once we are at the side of the house I try to get down. "You can let me down now." I say, trying to get down. "Nope." He replies. "But the guys can see up my dress." I say and he snarls. He puts me down and pushes my head to his, kissing me roughly. His other arm wraps around my waist, pulling me forward. I wrap my arms around his neck and run my fingers through his hair. His hand reaches for the pins in my hair and I jerk back. "We need to hurry before Kane comes looking." I say, not moving. "It doesn't seem as if you want to move." Ash growls and leans in for another kiss. I place a finger against his lips, "Come on Ash. I don't want to get in trouble." I say and start walking. I feel his arms start to wrap around my waist and I walk faster. Kane looks up and smiles. "You look nice for once." He jokes and I gasp. "Kane!" I growl playfully and his smiles grows. Ash looks around then at Kane. "Where's Alek?" He asks, still looking around. "Right here, Ash. I'm a grown man, I can take care of myself." The guy from earlier calls out as he walks towards Ash. Ash hugs him and he pushes him off. "Alexa, you'll be going with them. I'll be with Bren and Jason." Kane says and I nod. "Come." I say and walk towards my Land Rover. Ash plucks the keys from my hand and opens the door for me.

I roll my eyes and he runs around the car. He waits for the other cars to go and I turn around. "So, how do you know Ash?" I ask Alek. "He's my brother." He answers without looking at me.
Ever so like each other.
Yeah. They're annoying.
