Chapter 40: Dinner With The Alphas

*Next Morning
I wake up and go straight into the bathroom. I brush my teeth and comb my hair then tie it up. I look at my eyes and grin, still emerald with a dark ring around my iris.
I hear a groan and look into my room. Renazo blinks and looks around, the sheets pooled between his thighs. He sees me and his eyes widen. "We didn't? Did we?" He asks rushed and I raise an eyebrow. "Well I am wearing your shirt." I say. "Beta Drago's going to kill me." He mutters under his breath. I walk back into my room and climb onto the bed. I crawl towards him and straddle him. "Let loose. Have fun." I say and he sees my eyes. "You've shut off your humanity." He says and I smile. I kiss him and he takes a while to react. I pull back to kiss down his jaw. "This is wrong." He says. "But you haven't moved." I point out and nip his earlobe. I rub against his cheek, and he jerks back. "Don't. I'll get in trouble." He says and I sigh. "Fine." I say and move to get off. "I didn't say I wanted you off." He growls and nips the base of my throat. I move behind him and kiss right under his ear. He shudders and I nip him with sharp fangs. He turns his head and captures my lips in a possessive kiss. He lays over me and I wrap my arms around his neck. "If I switch my humanity off, I don't know if I can come back." He says. "I'll help you." I say. "But you'll be with the Alphas." He says and tries to get up, but I keep him in place with a leg wrapped around his waist. I stare up into his blue eyes, seeing flames of desire burning in them. "But I'm not for now." I say and kiss him. I flip us over and kiss down his chest. "Amore mio, I need to get dressed." He says and I groan. "The dinner isn't until six. It's only noon." I say and he sighs. I curl up against him and he holds me close. "Why is life so complicated?" I ask after a while. "Because it is. What would life be without complications." He answers and I settle my head over his heart. "Amore mio, look at me." He says and I do so. "Turn it back on." He says and I shake my head. "No." I say. "Turn it back on. Please amore mio." He says again, but I feel power backing his words. "No." I say, fighting him. "Turn. It. Back. On." He bites out, and his blue eyes turn hazel. Echo fights back and he growls. And she slowly starts giving in. "Turn it on, Alexa." He says and I see his wolf staring back at me. "You're an Alpha." I say and he shakes his head. "I'm the Enforcer. The Head Enforcer more like." He says and growls. And like that, I'm back to normal. "Your eyes are the same." He says and I blink. "Still the same." He says and I hide my head in his chest. "Come on. Get ready." He says and I groan when he tries to move me. "I'll carry you and put you in the bath myself." He growls. "Do it." I challenge. He raises his eyebrow, and scoops me up. He throws me over his shoulder and walks into the bathroom. He turns on the water and I struggle in his arms. "I'll be needing my shirt back." He says. "Then get it." I say and run off once he lets me down. I hear him close behind then his arms close around my waist. He pulls me back against him and takes me into the bathroom again. He starts unbuttoning my shirt and I growl. "You can wait outside. I'll give you your shirt back, I promise." I say and with a growl, he goes. I unbutton his shirt, fold it, then place it on the counter. I slowly get into the bath, making sure my hair stayed out of the water. I start nodding off when someone knocks on the door. "Hurry up, Beta Drago is coming in ten." I hear Renazo say and I jump out. I dry and put my robe on. I open the door and he presses a small kiss to my lips, then takes the shirt. I quickly dress and am pulling on my boots when the doorbell rings. "I'll wait in the guest room." Renazo says and I nod. "Here." I say and throw the cologne I accidentally took from Kane. "To hide my scent on you." I whisper and he nods. I quickly make my bed and spray the entire room. I run down stairs and open the door. Joshua stares at me. "Why is the limo parked out front?" He starts. "Renazo had too many glasses of wine yesterday and I let him stay in the guest room." I say and Joshua walks in. He sniffs and goes upstairs. I gnaw on my bottom lip and I hear him walking into every room. "Renazo, downstairs. Now." Joshua snarls and when they come into view, he has his hand wrapped around his throat. "Joshua!" I cry out and he glares at me. "I smell you all over him. You better have the best fucking excuse, Alexa." He screams. "Joshua- we're going to be late." Renazo wheezes and he drops him. I resist the urge to run and check on him. "Alexa, what did you do?" He asks. "What do you mean?" I ask. "You're not pure." He growls and I laugh. "I never have been. I've been married and mated. He died. I was pregnant, and I lost my pup. The King bonded me to my second mate, but we never mated." I say and his golden eyes remain locked onto my green ones. "But you're going to be mated to the Alphas. This fling... will end today." He growls and my eyes flick to Renazo. "I don't want to be with the Alphas. I can't." I say and Joshua stares at me. "You know I'm trying to break through to Alek." I say and he groans. "You're not going to. He's been through bad things. He's living in his own hell." Joshua says. "And that's why I'm trying to help him out of it." I reason. "Alexa, your father would have wanted you to keep the peace with the packs. Just do what I ask of you." He says and runs his hand down his face. "Just come on. We're going to be late." He says and Renazo runs to the car. "Look Alexa, Renazo won't get you anywhere. He's an Enforcer, nothing more, nothing less. With Rhys or Dominic, you have a future." Joshua says. "Fine. I'll choose an Alpha tonight." I say and his eyes widen. I quickly get into the car, ignoring Renazo's look. He slams the door after Joshua and he growls. "What do you mean you'll choose an Alpha tonight?" Joshua asks me. "At tonight's dinner, I'll choose an Alpha to be with." I say and I hear a low growl come from the front. "Ignore him. You're doing the right thing." He smiles and I barely smile back.

We pull up to the large castle, and Renazo opens the door. A man a couple years older than me takes the keys from Renazo and takes the limo away. "I must go ahead. Renazo, you are to be behind Alexa. Understood?" He growls lowly and we nod. He walks quickly and I keep my eyes forward, though I feel Ren at my shoulder. I wait a little longer and Rhys comes. "Alexa." He says. "Alpha." I say and dip my head. His fingers tilt my head up. "You're my equal." He says and I nod. Ren clears his throat, making us lose our eye contact. "Come, my father's waiting and he's not a patient man." He says and holds my finger with his. I don't say a word and follow him to the dining room. Alpha Donati looks up and smiles at our hands. "Sit." He smiles and I sit in the first seat I see. Rhys sits on my right, and Renazo sits beside Joshua. "Bring the food!" Alpha Donati yells and I see the couple that came with Aria and Celeste. I don't say a word and Rhys leans in close to my ear. "You look beautiful." He whispers and I blush. Alpha Donati grins and I pull away, accidentally hitting Dominic. I shrink back into my chair when he looks at me. "Dominic." Alpha Donati snaps and he looks away from me. "Eat." Alpha Donati says and we slowly start to. My eyes flutter shut at the different tastes of the food. "You know Alexa, you remind me of my late mate." Alpha Donati says after about twenty minutes of small talk. "Really?" I ask. "Yes. A scared little girl." He smirks and I bite my tongue. "She was left an orphan, terrified of every little thing." He says and I continue eating. "Weak and pathetic, you both are." He says and I blink quickly to stop my tears. It hurt when someone calls you weak and pathetic. "See what I mean, cries when called weak." He says in disgust and my breath catches. "Father, that's enough." Rhys growls. "It's never enough. A True Alpha would be able to take anything." Alpha Donati snaps. I drop my napkin on the table and get up. "How she lost her pup." Alpha Donati says and I cry louder. "Alexa..." Rhys starts and I shake my head, tears running down my face. I turn and run back the way we came from. I run out the front door and take the first car I see. I speed back to my villa and run into the house. I throw in necessary clothing into my duffel bags and check I have my wallet and passport. As I'm walking out of the villa, I crash into Renazo. "Where are you going?" He asks me and I shake my head. "I can't stay here. I'm running away, from here and my pack." I say and he stills. "You can't be a lone wolf. You're an Alpha, you'll be killed." He says and I pull away. "I know a place I'll be safe." I say and he sighs. "I'm coming then." He says and I laugh softly. "You'll get in trouble. Just stay." I say and slam the trunk shut. "Rhys will look for you. And so will I." He says and I shake my head. "But Rhys sent you this." He says and hands me a ring and an envelope. "Read it on your way." He smiles and I smile back, "Thank you." I whisper then hug him close. "Just because we can't be together doesn't me I don't love you." He says and I kiss him gently. Then I pull away and enter the car.
He stays standing there, and I look at him for the last time in my rearview mirror.
