Chapter 8: Lupine Ridge

Alexa's P.O.V
We arrived right on the entrance of town and shifted back. "Everyone stay with someone, try to be in threes." Kane says as we go into town. I get stuck with Kane and Jason. We all walk into a bar and Kane takes us to get drinks. A pretty girl with light green eyes smiles at us, "You new to town?" She asks. "Yeah, that obvious?" I respond with a laugh. She laughs back, "Yeah. I'm Joanna. You are?" She asks me. "I'm Alexa. This is my brother Kane and our friend Jason." I say, introducing us. She smiles, "Nice to meet ya'll." We nod. "Do you know any places we can stay?" I ask. "Yeah, the hotel down the street." she says, "Why?" "Well, we and a few more friends are looking for a place to stay until we head to Hamilton in the morning." I point to the rest of the pack sitting at a large table. She nods, "They'll have space." We ask for 11 Cokes and head to them. We hand them out and sit. "We found a place to stay the night. The hotel is down the road so we'll go in a little while." Kane tells us and we nod. We finish our drinks and get up. We wave goodbye to Joanna as we leave. We walk down the road to the hotel. When we go in, an older woman greets us. "Hello, how may I help ya'll?" She asks. "We need rooms for us all to share and sleep in." Kane says. "So about 5 rooms is okay?" Kane nods, "Perfect." We grab the keys, which are right by the fire exit and next to each other. "I want Luke, and Dec to share a room. Kaye, and Briar share. Liam and Kyle share a room. Bren and Elle share. Jason has his own. And I'll share with Alexa. Good?" we all nod and go to our rooms.

"Alexa, we're going to sleep as our wolves so shift." Kane says and my wolf comes easily. Kane shifts and we jump onto the beds. I curl up and fall asleep.

I wake up to find Kane on his phone. I shift back, "Morning Kane." I yawn as I stretch. "Morning Alexa. Come on, let's go eat with the pack." We close the door and go to wake up everyone. Jason comes out first and leans back against the railing, closing his eyes. Elle and Bren walk out and Bren keeps rubbing his eyes, "Too much sun. It's burning my eyes." He says while dramatically covering his eyes with his arm and we laugh. Dec and Luke shake their heads and the twins smile. "Okay let's turn in the room keys and go eat then leave." Kane says. Everyone nods and hands him the keys. We walk down the stairs and turn in the keys. "Bye ya'll. Be safe." The receptionist calls after us. We wave as we leave. When we enter the local Diner, a lady that looked like Joanna's twin took us to our table. "Hi, I'm Brianna and I'll be your server today. What would ya'll like to drink?" We all replied, "Coke." She smiled and went to grab our drinks. When she came back we all ordered a fry up and ate quickly. When we finished we left our tip but I left a note. Tell Joanna we said thank you. It read. I then followed after them when a old man grabbed my arm. "You newcomers best leave now." He said then let me go. Jason waited, "What did that man want?" "He said, 'You newcomers best leave noe.'" I repeat. Jason has a faraway look and I know he is talking to Kane. Kane comes back inside, "Let's go check back in." We follow him back to the motel. "Again. I thought ya'll were leaving me." The woman laughs. Kane laughs, "Thought we'll stick around a little longer." She hands us back the keys, "Here ya'll go. Be careful 'round here, the wolves come out in the night." She warns. "We'll be careful." "I'm going back to the bar, who's coming?" Luke asks. "I'll go." Bren and I say at the same time. Luke motions with his head and we walk to the bar. Joanna is drinking a Heineken and watching the bar. "Hey ya'll 'bout time you came back." She calls. I laugh and sit on a barstool. "Can I get some Jack and Coke please?" I ask. Luke and Bren stare at me and I raise an eyebrow. They raise a hand, "Make that three." She nods and makes three. We drink them, "This is the best." I sigh. They nod in agreement and we get another.
*Six Jack and Coke's later*
Joanna and I are laughing as Luke and Bren are hugging and dancing. Joanna is already on her fifth Heineken and I'm on my sixth Jack and Coke. Luke is singing with Bren. "Luke, Bren, we should... get back." I say as I try to stand up. They laugh, "We should stay." "No, Kane might be looking for us." I giggle. "No need. I'm here to take you back." Kane says as he walks in with Dec and Jason. Dec grabs Luke and Kane grabs Bren. Jason comes to get me. He wraps an arm around my waist and puts my arm around his neck. We all walk out and head to the motel. They open the doors we are staying in and Jason lays me down on the bed. Kane comes in and Jason leaves. "The only time I let you go out with Luke and Bren and you get drunk." Kane snarls at me. I giggle, "Luke and Bren were dancing and hugging." I roll onto my back and I yank the blanket over my head. I start giggling and Kane snarls and holds me. "Stop giggling." He growls at me. I giggle, and he groans in anger. I hear a knock and he tucks the blanket around me so I can't get out. He opens the door and Luke, Bren, Jason, and Dec are standing there. Luke and Bren are laughing and Kane let's them all in. I peek my head out, "Hi guys." I giggle and wave my hand. Dec and Jason glare at us and we all just laugh. Kane, picks me up, "Dec, turn on the cold water. Jason get ice." He orders. They both jump up and do as he says. I hear the water running and Kane starts walking to the bathroom. I try to get away but I'm stuck in his iron grip. He drops me into the water and I squeal as the ice cold water touches my skin. I try to get out but Kane is holding me down. I shift and snap at his hands. He snarls and smacks my muzzle before shifting. Jason and Dec run in and see us snarling at each other. Kane nods at Jason and Jason runs out. I hear another low growl and two more follow. I try to jump out but Dec keeps me in. Kane holds my muzzle in his and growls, waiting for me to submit. I instantly do and keep my head lowered as he left me with Dec. Dec pets me and I lean into his touch. I then pull back as electricity courses through my body, and by the look on his face, he felt it too. I turn off the water using my nose and lay on the towel to dry. Kane walks back in and nuzzles my head. We sit in silence until I hear a snarl and growl. I jump up and run into the room where I see Dec and a very familiar wolf tearing at each other. Dec swipes out, catching Luke on the face. Kane and I pull them apart, and he forces us three to shift. I hold Luke by the arm and see a trickle of blood running from his right eyebrow, and can tell the injury will scar. Luke's breathing hard and glaring at Declan. "Now, will someone tell me what the fuck happened here?" Kane asks, anger evident and radiating from him. Luke lowers his head, "I attacked my brother after I smelled Alexa's scent on him." Kane raises an eyebrow and Dec lowers his head, "Alpha, he is telling the truth." Jason says. Kane nods, and looks at the brothers, "Once we find a territory of our own I'll deal with you both but until then, I don't want either of you near Alexa. Understood?" They nod and I glare at Kane, "Everyone, will you please leave us to speak alone." They hear the anger in my voice and leave without a word. I turn to Kane and glare at him, "Did you really tell my two best friends they couldn't see me? Are you serious Kane? Are you fucking serious?" I spout off. He growls but I keep going, "How could you Kane? They're family to me. They were there when Mom and Dad died and you weren't." I scream, tears running down my face. Kane hugs me close and I cry out my frustration. "I'm sorry Lex. I'm so so sorry." I hear him say against my head. I pull back and kiss his cheek, "It's okay Kane. You're just protecting me." I say and wipe my eyes. He smiles then it fades. His eyes grow darker and he inhales deeply. "Alexa, I'm going to let you sleep here alone. I'm going to share with Jason." Kane says, eyes closed. "Sure, um, okay. Kane, you okay?" I ask, moving to touch his shoulder but he moves back. "Fine, just don't leave this room." He says just as he closes the door. I sit in the chair and think of what caused Kane to act this way. I look up when the door opens and see Kaye, Elle, and Briar walk in. "Hey Lex, Kane asked us to come visit you." Kaye says as she hugs me. We lay out on the bed and stare up at the ceiling. We talked about anything and everything, and soon fell asleep.
