Chapter 11: Our Home

Alexa's P.O.V
When Kane came back and said he found us our new home, I didn't expect to see the entire woodland surrounded by barbed wire. "Kane, do we have enough money?" I ask. "Our inheritance came through, Lex." He says and picks me up in a hug. I laugh and kiss his cheek, "We can own a lot of land with that money Lex, and still build mansions." He says, eyes glowing with excitement. Kane sends the boys out to scout the area and when they returned, we will go to purchase the 2 million acre land. The boys had shifted about an hour ago, and they haven't mind linked or howled. Kane paces, worry pricks his scent. I shift and the girls follow suit. I nip his hand and motion to follow. He shifts and we follow their scent trail. I push myself to go faster and I soon smell fear in the air. I keep my eyes forward and I don't see the trap set. My paw gets caught and I fall forward. My face grounds into the earth and I groan. Kane, and the girls stop. Alexa! You okay? Kane says, sniffing the trap. Briar looks at the rope attached to the stake in the ground. She bites the rope and jumps back with a yelp. It's got something on it, Alpha. Okay Briar. Let me try. Kane bites the cord and growls in pain. It's wolf proofed. Only humans can remove it. He says. Kane, where are we going to find a human, huh? I snap. He snarls, I don't know. But it's your stupid ass's fault for getting caught in this. I look at him and shift. I slip my hand out, "See you stupid ass." I growl and shift back. He snarls but follows me. I run until I hit the edge of the forest. I stop and I hear Kane growl. I see the boys running around after a small pack of females. Boys! I howl. They stop and the females turn, their ears perked. I walk down to them, my head up and my eyes a bright blue white. They all lower their heads, and my power grows. Jason tries to keep his head high and I growl. The females lower to the ground and I look at my pack. We sent you to scout our new territory. Not chase girls. I growl at them. Kane comes forward and stands beside me, Alexa's right. We gave you a simple task, and we find you chasing some females. Why is that? He snarls. Jason speaks up, We had met them here. And they claimed it was their land. Kane and I snarl in unison and the females all whine. I feel a slight burning and see my fur turning black. Kane! I scream through the mind link. I feel the burn coursing through my body and I scream in my mind. I fall to the floor like when I got caught in the trap. Kane! What's happening! I scream again, seeing my paws are black. It's your wolf. She's changing. I shut my eyes and feel sharp needles pressing into my skin. I curl up and feel the pack nudging me and whining. I try to force myself to shift, but it's as if my wolf is fighting back. Alexa, fight her. She's taking over. Kane says. I peek one eye open and they all move back. Kane, why are you all moving back? Y-You're eyes... He stutters and moves back again. I try to walk but miss. My head hits the flowers and I blink. I stand up again and the tip of my tail is flicking. I stare at Kane and I see a slight glimmer of fear in his eyes. Before I realize it, I'm on Kane and am snapping at his throat and face. He dodges my jaws until they connect with his ear. He cries out and kicks. I jump back and snarl. Kyle tentatively presses his nose against my neck. I snap at him and push past everyone circled around. I run straight into the tree line but I hear the pack follow. I push myself to run faster but that's when I see him. A stunning russet wolf. His bright emerald green eyes stare unblinkingly at me. I bark softly and he dips his head. I tilt my head and he looks behind me. He motions with his head to follow and I reluctantly do. He races off and I follow at his heels. He leaps over fallen trees and I soon match him stride for stride. He slides an eye over to me and I keep my eyes forward, though I feel tingly. He slows down to a trot, and I stop completely. I shift back without her fighting me and I sigh in relief. He tilts his head and he too shifts. I take a step back. He is a lot taller than Kane's 6'2". He has dark brown hair and those stunning emerald eyes. He smirks, "Do I get a thanks?" I raise an eyebrow, "For?" "For saving your ass." I scoff, and turn to walk away. He jogs to catch up, "Hey, where you goin'?" "I'm going to my pack." He tilts his head, "Pack?" I turn my head, "Yeah. The wolves who were following after me." He makes an oh shape with his mouth. "If you want, you can meet my pack." He says. I stop, and turn. "Now, why would I trust you and go?" I ask. That annoying smirk returns, "Cause I saved you and it's getting late." He says pointing to the darkening sky. I close my eyes in annoyance, "Fine. Lead the way." I start to walk after him but stop, "Wait!" I say. He turns, "I don't even know your name." He smirks again, "It's Ace. And you are?" "It's Alexa." I answer, my wolf reacting to his body position. My eyes have a faint glow and he raises an eyebrow. "Are we gonna go or what?" I take a deep breath and nod, following him through the forest.
