From the beginning of the forest, where I started walking with Amaya, I could feel a giddiness in the air. When Amaya and I came close, I realized all of it was coming from our own dear Frodo! 'Maybe El has something to do with it, I need to go ask her! I thought as I excused myself and left Amaya. I mean, of course I would talk to her again, she is really nice.
I once again follow her energy and find her resting in her hammock that is located in her room.
"Hey, El! So, what happened with Frodo?" I asked
"Not much, Eglaneth." She murmurs and a blush rises to her cheeks.
"Don't play coy with me, their is literally love in the air and a feeling of giddiness around Frodo that I could feel from the forest. And he was at the gates!!"
"I told you it was nothing, Eglaneth! Stop prying!" El exclaims.
I resort to annoying it out of her.
"What happened what happen what happened what happened what happened what happened what happened what happened what happened what happened what happened what happened wha- "
I got cut off because Elemmire started talking. "You aren't going to let this go, are you? And why do you care?" She sighs.
I smiled at my friend. "Why shouldn't I care? You're my best friend. Plus, I've told you everything about my past, including my love life so why can't you tell me?" I asked, trying to convince her.
She hesitated for a moment before speaking.
"Promise not to tell father, okay? He will kill me, he wants me to be with an elf."
"I promise .... I would swear on my life, but that is meaningless to me."
"It would mean something to me." She murmurs. "He kissed me."
"WHAT?!" I exclaimed. Apparently, Aragorn was close because he came in and asked.
"What?"
"Nothing!" El and I exclaimed unanimously.
"Okay......" He says suspiciously and walks away.
"WHAT?!" I asked again, this time, a little more quietly.
"Frodo kissed me. I dont think it meant anything. He called me more beautiful than Lady Galadriel, like that's even true." Elemmire elaborates.
But my heart tells me the opposite of what Elemmire does.
"Don't say that." I say sternly." The joy I felt from Frodo..... that was something only love can convey."
"But what if he leaves me?" She frets. "What about father? And the ring? What if something happens and he is left to pick up the pieces?"
"Elemmire, I have never known a hobbit to be untrustworthy. Ever. I don't think he will leave you. And as for your father, he will not easily accept it, but he will have to understand. And I will be with you the whole way. Frodo will never be truly alone. As long as he has us, as long as he has you." II tell her. This is truly what I believe. Then she says something unexpected.
"But you're going to leave me! Once the ring is destroyed." Elemmire cries.
It is true. That is my fate. My oath would be fulfilled, and I would find myself in the lands of the dead.
"I have to, El. No weapon can harm me, yet my doom is set in stone. It will hurt beyond anyone's knowledge to leave you. But I can't cheat death. And I will be there, in your heart, until our paths cross again."
I reach behind my neck, and unclasp a chain. It had a pendant that was a smooth stone, shaped as a teardrop.
"My mother gave this to me when she sailed away. When you look into it, you see the ones you love most. It has comforted me throughout my journey. Now it is yours." I tell her, putting kit in her palm. This necklace, besides my weapons, is the only solid object I can bear on my body.
"Sleep." I tell her. It is indeed getting late.
I sing her a lullaby (video to the right). When I am finished, she is fast asleep. I have forgotten what it feels like to sleep. I have not slept for thousands of years. I make my way back to the tree by the waterfall and wait for the day to come.
