*Three years later*
"Happy birthday!!" Izzy squealed as Rose and Lily walked through her front door. "You're nine! I can't believe it!!"
Rose and Lily both looked around in excitement at the balloons and streamers decorating Izzy's house. There was a half pink, half green cake on one of the small tables surrounded by confetti and even more balloons.
"Izzy, why did you do this!? You didn't have to throw a party for us!"
Izzy shrugged. "I told my parents I wanted to since you threw me one two weeks ago for my birthday."
"And we talked to your parents," Izzy's mom said as she put party hats on the girls. "And you two are more than welcome to sleep over tonight."
The three girls jumped up and down in a tight hug, screaming so loud that the cat ran upstairs. They hadn't had a sleep over in the past like . . . Week! It had been forever since they sat in front of the TV watching Spongebob and eating popcorn while doing make overs! They needed more girl time!
"Happy birthday!" Each of their guests screamed when they walked in. Their entire class was invited and they all brought nice presents for the girls. Except for Josh . . . He brought them socks . . .
Everyone had a great time dancing, and singing, and playing games. Rose even got a kiss on the cheek from her crush, Zack! She was extremely giggly after that.
After everyone left, the girls went upstairs and put their pajamas on. Rose and Izzy started watching Teen Titans and Lily looked in her little green bag.
"Guys, I can't find Mister Fluffernutters! I think I left him at home!" Mister Fluffernutters was Lily's stuffed animal bunny. He was extremely old and had to be repaired by her mother countless times. And Lily didn't care. She loved him and couldn't sleep without him.
"Want us to go check at home for him with you?" Rose asked.
"No . . . I'll go by myself . . . I'll be right back!" And she ran out the door, downstairs and across the street.
Rose and Izzy flipped through channels, trying to find something else to watch. They were just about to settle on a Barbie movie, when they heard the loudest, most blood-curdling scream in the history of screams. The girls ran to the window because they knew it came from outside.
They watched in horror as fire trucks and police cars pulled into the street. All of the neighbors stood outside their houses, clueless of the situation unfolding before their eyes. Rose watched as some of the firemen climbed a ladder onto her roof and broke open all of the windows, including the one in her bedroom. What are they do--?
Rose didn't have time to finish the thought before she started crying and watched nervously as flames and smoke started pouring out her bedroom window. She could faintly hear her sister's screams above all of the commotion on the street.
She collapsed into sobs as Izzy watched, terrified and unsure of what to do. Izzy's parents were outside on the front lawn and Rose's parents were . . . Well they were in the burning house with Lily . . .
Rose had no idead what happened next. Everything was a blur. She watched people carry flat bed-like things with white sheets over them. (A/N: Yes, I know they're stretchers, but it's in her mind.) Three of them . . .
Izzy tried to comfort her and distract her, but nothing worked. She felt arms around her, squeezing her, patting her back. She couldn't even cry anymore. She was numb to the core, but in so much pain and agony at the same time. She kept hearing her name over and over and over.
Rose. ROSE. Rose? ROSLYNN! Rosie?
"Don't call me 'Rose'." Was all she could say . . .
