Packing and Sickness

*Echo’s POV*

*One week later*

So, Riot is still feeling sick, but I’m fine . . . Surprisingly. Neither of us knows why she keeps throwing up. That’s it though. No fever, no cough, nothing. The guys are coming home next week and CC is taking me to get my first ultrasound the day after he gets back. I’m really excited about it and it’s distracting me from packing! The appointment is scheduled and all, but it’s all I can think about! All I want to do is hold my little Mini Mora and cuddle with my Regular sized Mora. I miss him . . . I miss his hugs and kisses and how he shakes his little hips when he’s drunk.

“Echo, come here please!” I sighed and rubbed my tiny bump as I walked to Riot’s room. There were boxes all around the house and her room was a disaster area. It looked like a hurricane ripped through here and tossed her clothes everywhere.

“Jeez, RiRi, can’t you be a little neater with this?” I asked while clearing off a little space on her bed so I could sit.

“Ha ha, Echo. Listen, I need help packing. I don’t know what I should keep and what to get rid of.”

“Well, let’s see. All of the furniture, minus the dresser, can probably be sold. Any of your clothes that fit in there can stay. Any dressy clothes you can probably put in the closet at Andy’s house. And you could probably get a plastic box for your summer clothes since it’s getting cold outside, and you can put the box away somewhere,” I paused and scratched my nose. “I think that’s about it, right? Because you’ll have blankets and stuff, but I guess you can bring a few if you wanted them. Like the really fuzzy one could be a nice cuddle blanket.”

Riot nodded and sat on the ground to fold clothes and put them in a bushel. She did it silently, which is so unlike her. I started folding some of the clothes on her bed and stacking them neatly next to me. It was just really awkward sitting here without music or conversation, so I brought something up. The first thing that popped into my mind.

“So, that night after cheering . . .” Riot’s head shot up. “Um . . . What the hell happened?” I already knew she wasn’t going to tell me, but I had to see if I could get anything more out of her, since Ashley only gave small details and he really only focused on Riot being hurt. I didn’t blame him.

“What do you mean? I didn’t make it, we went out, and then Ash brought me home, right? Then the next morning, you took me to the hospital. I mean, you were there Echo! Why are you asking me?”

“It’s just that . . . Well I was talking to Ash while we waited to see if you were okay.” Her eyes got a little wider, but I could tell she was trying to stay calm.

“What did he say?” Her voice shook a little and I saw her do this little neck twitch she does when she gets angry. It’s barely noticeable unless you really know her.

I sighed and tried to find my voice. I cleared my throat and looked her in the eyes, but it hurt. “He said you two slept together.”

She blinked and slowly looked away from me. She continued folding clothes and refused to look at me when she replied. “Well yeah, he slept in my room. We were both drunk and it was late and I wasn’t gonna make him walk all the way to the bus, so I let him sleep over.”

“No, Riot. I mean . . . He said you slept together. I didn’t want to believe him, but I was nervous because I didn’t know if you were going to die from blood loss or something and he told me it was his fault and . . .” I sighed just to catch my breath. “Is what he told me true, RiRi?”

Neither of us spoke for what felt like forever. We just stared at each other and I watched at her face grew sadder and angrier. Her mouth was in a tight line threatening to burst open and scream. Her eyes were filled with tears that she wouldn’t let escape. Her neck twitched every few seconds and she just stared. I knew my face was full of confusion, sympathy, and worry, but I am worried about her. What if something didn’t happen and this ruined things between us? What if something did happen and it ruined things between us?

“R—“ I started, my voice shaky, but she cut me off.

“Nothing happened, Echo. Just stop worrying about it, okay?” She was more hurt and angry than sad. I watched her violently toss the shirt she was holding into the bushel and stand up, her legs threatening to bring her down again. She stomped out of the room and into towards the bathroom and I followed.

“Riot?” She stopped and looked at me. “Do you swear . . . on your sister’s grave . . . That nothing happened?”

She pursed her lips and stared at me with sad eyes. Her lower lip started to quiver and she sniffled once before lightly shaking her head at me and turning around. She slammed the door loudly and left me standing in the middle of our small apartment. I didn’t bother to stop the tears as I lied down on the couch, rubbing my tiny Mini Mora bump.

I ruined everything. She’s not going to talk to me for a while. She’ll stay angry at me. She won’t eat or sleep much (not that that isn’t already an issue). I don’t know what she’ll . . .

I shot up off of the couch. “Riot!?” I sprinted over to the bathroom and pounded on the door. “RIOT, DON’T YOU FUCKING DARE DO WHAT I THINK YOU’RE DOING!” I kept pounding on the door with my fists, tears streaming down my face. “RIOT!” I gave the door one last slam before I heard the sound of Riot throwing up. She was crying so much she made herself sick . . . And she was still sick. She didn’t eat much other than that pop tart this morning, so she couldn’t have been getting much up. She retched again and coughed until I didn’t hear anything but a few sniffles.

A few minutes later, I heard the toilet flush and the sink run. Riot coughed a little more as she cleaned herself up and I heard the sink turn off. I took a deep breath and listened to her footsteps walk closer to the door. I watched the doorknob as she unlocked the door slowly then I waited.

She walked out with a green towel in her hands. Her eyes were bloodshot and her hair was pulled back into a ponytail. I glanced at the green towel and saw that there was blood on it and I frowned. She sniffled and threw herself at me. I wrapped my arms around her and she sobbed into my shoulder. I heard her muter some things to herself as I walked her over to the couch. We sat down and she rested her head on my lap as I stroked her hair to comfort her.

Once she finally calmed down, I took a deep breath to calm myself. "Riot, you didn't . . . You know . . . Did you?"

She sniffled and shook her head against my lap. "No . . . I couldn't . . . Too sick . . ." I know how bad she wanted to though. When you've been through what she has, the urges are nearly impossible. I sighed and stroked her hair until she fell asleep.

I was just glad the guys are coming home in a few days.
