Chapter 1- Airbending

It was a normal day on air temple island, Talia was out and about on the island, which was a common occurrence for the young girl. There were certain places on the island, little gems, that Talia liked to commonly visit, little coves and hidey holes.

"Talia, where are you going" Tenzin called after Talia as she was walking away from the main temple outside.

"I'm going for a walk down to the shore" she replied calmly looking over her shoulder to her older brother, continuing her way.

"Stay safe! Be back before dark" he called back to her as per usual.

She smiled turning to look over her should again "Ok, I will" with that she headed down to the coast, being careful not to stray too far. Talia had to be careful, she didn't want Tenzin or anyone else for that matter, finding her while she was practising.

After a good walk she arrived to one of her hidey holes where no one will see her. The area was surrounded by rocks and a cliff, no one could hear, because of the crashing of the tide on the rocks behind. But what she didn't realise was that this hidey hole was on the opposite side of the island, and she had set out quite late in the afternoon, so she didn't realise how long she had been out for and how late it truly was, it was almost dark, and she didn't even realise. Talia had been meditating for a very long time, this wasn't uncommon for her, however usually she was left earlier in the day. Before she had any time to react Tenzin came out from behind her while he was sent out to look for her, knocking over some rocks as he did so. Talia reacted and airbended towards him on instinct, and he deflected it and stood there in awe, she tried to run but before she could get anywhere, he grabbed her wrist and hugged her. Talia was frozen in shock.

"Talia! You're an airbender!" He called out happily holding her at arm's length in front of him.

Before he could continue, she interrupted him by putting a finger up to his lips. "Shhhhhhhhh!!!" she said to him looking around. Tenzin looked genuinely confused by her response, his head slightly tilted, and an eyebrow raised.

"I don't want anyone to know... I don't want Dad to know..." she told him with a small voice, looking down slightly and avoiding eye contact.

"But why, it's a gift, dad and I" Tenzin hesitated "and you, we are the last airbenders Talia?!" He added trying to wrap his head around her reasoning for hiding such a thing.

"Tenzin please, I don't want dad to find out!" She cried out hurriedly, desperate for him to understand.

"But why?!" He responded, voicing the earlier unspoken question.

"You wouldn't understand!" And with that she tried to hurry off, but she couldn't, Tenzin had her wrist in his grip. He wouldn't understand her point of view on it, she didn't want to be dealing with this.

"You're right, I don't understand. So please explain it to me" Tenzin said softly to her, he wanted her to tell him, he wouldn't be able to understand or help if she didn't. She just stood there silent.

"Tenzin you get all the attention from dad, and dad leaves Bumi and Kya out, I ... I just don't want to be the cause or to add to that" Talia started softly "So just for now can you just forget that this ever happened, please" she sounded unsure but upset, he wasn't quite sure, but he seemed to respect her choice.

"Fine, but you know you're going to have to tell them at some point" Was his reply, he pulled her in for a soft hug, one that would reassure he that her older brother was there for her.

"I know" she replied softly with sadness but reassurance in her voice.

Tenzin pulled away from the hug "Come on let's get back. Mum's probably going crazy, you've been gone so long" He spoke with a light tone to try and help lighten the mood a bit.

"Yeah" she said with a slight snicker, smiling. They turning and started back in the direction of the temple, of home. "Race you!" she called running off ahead of him laughing.

Back at the temple, their mother, Katara approached Aang "Aang have you seen them" She asked slightly worried. She was starting to get worried now it was getting dark and Talia hadn't returned yet and Tenzin had gone to look for her and who knows what happened.

"Calm down Katara" Aang reassured her "I'm sure there fine, Tenzin knows how to protect himself and I doubt anything has happened to them" he told her with a reassuring smile on his face walking over to her.

Moments later, the two siblings walked through the door, they were both slightly out of breath. "You cheated" Talia said to Tenzin recovering from their running.

"There you guys are I was worried sick." Katara said walking over to them briskly "You, young lady have some explaining to do, but I'm just glad your back" she said crouching to inspect her youngest child.

"Sorry mum. I was exploring I must have lost track of time" Talia explained sheepishly.

"Don't be too harsh on her mum, there are some pretty cool places." Tenzin backed up standing behind Talia having recovered his breath.

"Well come on, dinners on the table and it's getting cold, go join your siblings" Katara ushered them standing up and brushing off her skirt lightly with a smile.

"Hey, wait up" Talia called over to Tenzin as he had started to walk ahead to the dining room.

"Race you there" Tenzin called back to Talia and they both started off.

"Cheater!" could be heard from the dining rooms as Talia called to Tenzin as he was ahead beating her into the room.

"Nothing could separate those two" Katara said softly and happily as Aang leant down and kissed her forehead before they walked over to the children at dinner.
