"You must be the new student! Hello there! I think you should introduce yourself!"
I anxiously stood in front of thirty students, having most of them staring at me whilst others just stared out of the window or secretly texted under their tables.
All of my bravery, all of my confidence was suddenly washed away. Their eyes lingering on me felt like a thousand stabs all over my body and I couldn't move a muscle.
I looked up and my eyes were immediately connected to someone in the last row, someone I knew. It was Lucas, the one that had helped me find my way to the registry earlier.
I don't know if he recognised me since he seemed to be all lost in his own thoughts as he was playing with some of his wristbands that hung on his arms.
"I-I don't think that this would be a good idea, Sir" I mumbled through the infinite silence.
I wished I could just run straight back out of the room, but I knew how it would only make things even weirder.
"No need to be shy! C'mon, just tell us a few sentences about yourself and you're off to take a seat" Mr Phelbs said.
I rolled my eyes as I turned back around and stared at Lucas since he was the only one I knew. Well, I didn't really know him, but at least I knew his name. He seemed nice earlier and he seemed different. I had always liked people that were different and I couldn't even explain why.
"My name is Ally Scott. I'm from Texas. I'm 16 years old. And that's all you need to know" I said, my voice swinging with confidence.
"Well... okay, just go and sit with Lucas then. There's no other seat left. Except this o-"
"Harry sits here. But he told me that he's not sure if he's gonna come" the girl in the front row chirped, blinking with her long fake lashes.
I rolled my eyes again and made my way to the last row to take my seat next to Lucas. I already felt a strong dislike towards everyone in this room and it had only been a few minutes, even uf they felt like hours.
"Can I sit here?" I asked Lucas, already setting my stuff down.
Lucas looked up at me, a torn as well as scared expression on his face. He just nodded hesitantly and turned his attention back to his wristbands.
I sunk down on the chair and got my phone out as Mr Phelbs started the maths lesson. I checked my notifications and I answered some messages, ignoring the rest of them. I was about to pay attention to the actual lesson, but when I focused on the white board the door suddenly opened.
"Mr Styles, may I ask where you've been? The lesson started fifteen minutes ago" Mr Phelbs asked annoyed.
I didn't really bother to look up, but when my eyes caught a tall figure with a white shirt walking through the doorway, I yanked my head up, in order to glance at the familiar stranger.
It was him, that weirdo from my locker. I thought I got rid of him, I actually hoped I wouldn't have to see him anymore. And I didn't expect to see him in maths class.
"Would you answer my question by any chance?" Mr Phelbs' loud voice boomed.
I couldn't get my eyes off of that guy, his fancy scent was still remained in my nose, his grey eyes full of mystery were still reflecting every beam of the light, his brown hair was still remained in natural curls and his tattoos were still shining through the thin fabric of his shirt. He seemed like the popular bad boy that every girl secretly fancied.
"I was busy" he replied sharply.
Mr Phelbs sighed but quickly chose to shrug it off and continue the lesson, after telling him to better not let this happen again.
"Lucas?" I whispered as I turned my head to my left.
His head shot up and he glanced around until he found me staring at him. He wore a questioning look on his face as his eyes met mine, but he quickly looked away.
"That guy in the front, the curly one. What's his name?" I asked curiously
Lucas glimpsed at the front row, but immediately turned his attention back to me as his gaze caught the guy I was talking about.
"Harry" he mumbled, his voice cracking slightly as his name left his throat.
"Ah, thanks" I replied as Lucas already started playing with his bracelets again.
I wasn't much of a genius and neither someone to understand the world, but it didn't take much of a therapist to see that Lucas was terrified when he looked at Harry.
Behind his bright blue orbs, there hid demons that were bigger than his self esteem.
I wished I could know why he was so scared and anxious, but I had promised myself that I wouldn't get too attached to anyone. I didn't want anyone near me because I knew that they're going to leave. That's why I kept the majority of my problems to myself and never talked to anyone about how I actually felt.
I don't need someone to save me; I can save myself. I just need someone to love me and make me fight while I save myself, but I won't admit that.
I blankly stared at the cold and empty walls of the classroom. It was laid in darkness and even though the clock already told eleven in the morning, the sun refused to shine today. I didn't mind though. I had never really liked sunny days for some reason.
Mr Phelbs' loud voice boomed through the silence, explaining things like the Pythagorean theorem while my mind kept me from paying attention.
I had the feeling that no one was actually listening, but neither was I. All these new impressions were distracting me.
Seconds passed by; minutes passed by. No sooner, the bell rang and the noise immediately started. Everyone was back up on their feet and heading for their next periods whilst I went through my schedule again.
Lucas was slowly swinging his backpack over his shoulders and I stepped in front of him to stop him from walking away.
"What is your next period?" I asked him.
"E-english" he mumbled. He was glancing at some other pupils behind me which were standing in a little group, talking and laughing.
"Me too. Could you maybe walk with me?" I asked sheepishly.
He nodded, but there was a clear reflection of fear in his eyes. Before I could ask him if there was a problem, he speed walked out of the room with his head down.
I quickly stumbled on to catch up on him again, but before he could reach the door, he was stopped dead in his tracks.
"Oh, look, it's Lucas!"
I looked up and saw Harry blocking our way. I rushed to Lucas' side, probably looking like a complete fool, but again I couldn't care less.
Lucas was so much taller than me, he was in fact probably taller than a giraffe. Harry was about the same height and the rest of his friends seemed to be shorter, but still tall enough to easily spit on me.
"We've met before, haven't we?" Harry chuckled at me, "Look Lucas, you better be lucky and leave quickly, because your little friend officially belongs to us now, got it? Better thank her, because otherwise we would have beaten you up again."
Harry's face was full of pure joy and amusement as his grey eyes were shining dangerously. I wanted to beat him black and blue until every muscle of his body ached and he couldn't even think of smiling anymore, but Lucas' hand quickly grabbed mine before it could collide with his cheek. His dumb friends started laughing behind him, but Lucas didn't seem to be in the mood for laughing.
And neither was I.
"Guess what? I don't belong to any of you bastards and believe me, I'd rather belong to Lucas than to any of you douchbags. And you better fuck off now, thanks for the nice conversation, now go and play with your dolls, dumbass" I hissed as I grabbed Lucas' hand and yanked him out of the room.
