➼ jade
"you look so nice," luke said, smiling smile at me from the doorway.
he looked just as nice, well to be honest better. he had a nice white t-shirt on, leather jacket adding some edge, and of course instead of slacks and nice shoes, he wore his black jeans and just as dark converse. he looked so handsome.
"you too," i reply, placing a hand on his chest, pulling away from a hug i initiated.
it would be a lie if i said i wasn't nervous, to be honest i was scared shit. would he bring up what happened in my room? would he totally blow it? or did he not hear it?
ugh, my brain was hurting and i just wanted to have a nice time with luke.
grabbing my hand, he leads me towards the elevator, "where are we going, luke?"
"you'll see."
-
once the elevator dings, indicating we arrived at our floor, the doors open to a beautiful sight.somehow, some way, luke managed to rent out the roof. the lights were dimmed, lights hung all around, bushes and shrubs to add a little something and they was a single table. this was defiantly something out of a movie or book.
"luke," i gasped as he led me towards the table. "you didn't really have to do this?"
"i know, it's just we can't ever go out to a nice place together, alone," he began. "with you dating calum and what not, so i thought of the next best thing."
"is that lana playing?"
laughing, luke grabs a remote, turning the music up a bit more, "yeah."
bending over, he pulls out a little basket with some food in it, "pizza? really, Luke?"
"what? it's what we had on our first date," he laughs. "well technically it wasn't our first day but still!"
"thanks babe, it's cute that you remembered," i reassured the boy. i notice a glass of water and begin to pour us each a cup, "let me help."
we talk and laugh about things, you would've thought it was our first date, like we were getting to know each other all over again.
taking one last bite, luke throws his napkin on the plate, "i am so full!"
"ditto," i agree. "so, how was your day?"
"it was good, but started off bad."
my stomach instantly flipped, "oh why so?"
"can i be honest with you jade?" he asks, earning a nod from. "well this morning i heard you and michael talking, and i heard what you said."
"oh, you did? it's not wha-"
"jade, there's no reason to explain," he says, putting my mind at ease. "it just sucks that you couldn't tell me yourself, rather than me overhear it."
"i'm sorry, i was just unsure about my feelings, or rather not, because being with you is completely different," i tell him. "you make me get butterflies, and well it's just different."
"i feel exactly the same," luke smiles, but as soon as i see that toothy grin, it's gone. "that's why i think we should take a break."
"what, why?"
taking a deep breath, luke begins, "well i just think your breakup with calum will give us some time to think about what we really want."
"so you're ending this because you want us to figure out what exactly?"
"we're not breaking up, jade, it's just a break."
"luke, that's what people say when they don't want to say breakup," i laugh humorlessly.
"the time apart will help with us seeing if what we feel or think is true, i think it'll help us a lot," he went on. "plus with me on tour and you finishing up things with maze runner, it'll help with us keeping our minds straight and on important things."
"so our relationship isn't important?"
groaning, luke said, "that's not how i meant it, of course it's important, you're important to me. that's why i think we should do this."
"how about this, i'm going to go to my room now, order ice cream and watch movies? you're more than welcome to come, because i'm trying so hard to understand this whole situation."
"deal, i'd really like that," luke smiled.
we begin to pack things up, as the music of title fight plays in the background, but my mind takes me to other places. i start to think of everything, i just don't understand where he's coming from and the end result of this.
all i wanted was to have a good date and end up back in my room falling asleep in his arms. now the possible chance of that happening was far in the distance, i just wanted to crawl into a ball and sleep.
~
last night ended up being fairly fun, we watched movies, ate junk food, invited the boys over for cards against humanity and ended up all crashing out on the floor. i did manage to fall asleep in luke's arms, it was a lot better than what i planned to do. i was going to miss them, i knew they'd be upset when i didn't show up at the show to cheer them on. but deep down, i think luke would understood. i couldn't pretend to be happy, i just couldn't pretend anymore.that's why as soon as they left, i packed my things, told el to book me the next flight back to LA and i was gone.
