"No...please don't hurt me I'll do anything you ask I swear!!"
He chuckled, raising his arm, his huge hand casting a shadow over me.
"But I thought you liked the pain..."
he whispered in my ear as he hit me.
I woke from my nightmare sweating. All the blankets kicked across the room, I was left shivering in my pajamas.
The dreams still happen. Seven years away from that hell, and I can't get it to stop following me.
I sat on my bed with my knees curled to my chest, studying my photo wall. Something looked out of place. In each and every picture, I was smiling. I haven't smiled in months.
As I drifted off into my thoughts, I was rudely interrupted by a pounding on my bedroom door.
"What the hell do you want?" I shouted in the general direction of the knocking.
"Come downstairs. We're leaving soon." I heard my older sister say from the other side of the door.
I uncurled, confused. Where were we supposed to go today?
And then it dawned on me. The one place I didn't want to go.
Back to school night.
