Lily sat in the car next to Marcus, trying to ignore him as he rambled on about something stupid. They were on their way to this party that Marcus's dad was throwing for one of his companies, and Lily was really beginning to regret agreeing to come.

She had no idea how she ever dated Marcus before. He was annoying and too talkative and whiney. Just like her. But Lily did all of that in a cute way. She just couldn't stand Marcus, after spending most of the last week with him she was honestly about to crack.

"You should probably stand by me the entire time." Marcus said, turning towards Lily. "You know, you are my date."

"I'll do whatever I want, Marcus." Lily snapped, folding her arms across her chest. She was wearing a long, sparkly red dress that Marcus had practically picked out for her so they could color-coordinate.

"I think your parents are supposed to be coming." Marcus added, clearly just trying to keep the conversation going.

"Yeah, I doubt they'll show up." Lily mumbled, looking down at her lap. She knew that Luke was coming, he was in a different car because he said that he needed to pick someone up before going to the party.

"My father invited them, so..."

"They don't even show up to the parties they throw themselves, what makes you think they'll show up to this one?" Lily snapped. She leaned over and looked out the window. "Are we almost there? This has been the longest car ride of my entire life."

"A few more minutes, I think." Marcus smirked, scooting closer to Lily. He reached over and out his hand on her thigh. "We have some time to kill."

"Don't touch me, Marcus, I swear to God!" Lily yelled, slapping his hand away from her.

"Shit, I'm sorry." Marcus said, rolling his eyes. "You know, we used to do stuff like that all the time."

"That was before." Lily said blankly, staring straight ahead of her. This was a bad idea, she was already thinking up excuses that could get her out of this.

"Before what?" Marcus questioned, a smug grin on his face.

"Before I realized that you're the biggest douchebag I've ever met." Lily frowned, wondering how far away they were from the party.

"I thought whoever your last boyfriend was is the biggest douchebag you've ever met?" Marcus asked, also turning and staring straight ahead as he spoke. Lily hoped that he was beginning to get the hint that she wanted nothing to do with him.

"Michael? No, he's not." Lily said defensively. She wished that Michael was here. "He messed up, but he's not a douchebag."

"I distinctly remember you calling him one..." Marcus trail off, looking out the window.

"Well, I didn't. You're probably confused, Marcus, I bet I called you a douchebag." Lily sighed, tucking a piece of her hair behind her ear. "Are we almost there?"

"Yeah, I think." Marcus nodded slowly. He climbed over Lily to look out of the window on her side as the car stopped.

"Get off of me." Lily whined, pushing Marcus away from her.

"There's going to be people taking pictures of us." Marcus reminded her, adjusting his tie.

"I grew up as a member of New York's richest family, do you think I'm an idiot?" Lily rolled her eyes, fixing her hair once more. "Just stay on my left, I like my right side better."

"But I like my right side better." Marcus pouted, trying to get Lily to change her mind.

"Well too bad." Lily shrugged. She got out of the car, not bothering to see if Marcus was even ready. Ideally Lily would just walk into the party alone, but she knew that wasn't going to happen.
