Chapter 36: It's Not Your Fault

The chatters around the room were driving me crazy, but not as much as the glares. I walked slowly as I carried my tray to the table where Tommy was sitting down with Whitney- yes, the annoying blonde- and Tyler tagged behind me.

"Ignore them," he insisted for what felt like the umpteenth time.

"That's what I am trying to do," I said through clenched teeth, forcing a smile.

I mean, I know it was bad before, but it had never been this bad. Well, now they have more of a reason, right? Lorena's news had made it big here. Like I have mentioned before, my school is basically a Gossip column. Everyone wants the inside scoop. And trust me, it is not that hard to get it.

As I passed by the table where Claire, Grace and Jerome were sitting, things got ten times worse. Because they weren't exactly judging; no. They looked scared. But as my eyes met Jerome's, he quickly tried to cover it. And then his eyes turned to look at Tyler...giving him the same look he gives him lately. That glare that could kill.

"Ignore him," I told Tyler as we approached our table.

"That's what I am trying to do."

We finally reached our table, and as I sat down, Nina Harness passed by, a gloom look turning into one of hate. But she didn't stop to say anything.

"Can't believe you're going to have to deal with her for our vacations," Tommy said, taking another bite of his burger.

"You saw that, right?" I asked, to no one in particular. "So what? Now I am also to blame for what has happened to Lorena?"

"Well, she was kinda crazy and you and I both know it," Tommy said, and I remembered the conversation we had at the beginning of the Lorena's appearance into our lives. She was kind of psychotic, but that was just a character she was playing. But I wasn't going to tell that to Tommy.

"Deserved it or not, how can it be my fault?"

Part of me felt like if it was like that, but that'd be stupid. What did I do? Her and I...we're in the same waters.

"They are ignorant, Katherine. Don't pay attention to them," Tyler said as he opened his water bottle.

"Sure. You may say ignorant, but I-" And for some odd reason, Whitney grunted instead of finishing her sentence. That odd reason probably being Tommy's foot.

The youngest Stevens began studying his surrounding as he nervously tapped the table with his fingers. I stared directly at him, waiting for him to snap out of it. Not only was it annoying, but it was making me nervous. Until finally, he looked towards me and quickly, as if he had just been caught red-handed, looked back down to his plate.

"What is it, Tommy?"

He sighed deeply before clearing his throat.

"Okay, after what happened that day...I know this might sound crazy, but...I just think that maybe you should do something to prove you are not guilty."

"That's not crazy, Tommy, that's insulting," Tyler scolded at his youngest brother.

"Look, I never said it was, and I am not saying she is guilty, but she should give a reasons for the events that occurred that night." And as hard as I tried, Tommy never understood my signs for him to shut the hell up.

"What occurred that night?" a curious and suddenly mad at me Tyler asked.

I tried to wrap my head around this conflict, looking for excuses, but time was limited and I couldn't hesitate because then it'd be too obvious, right? So I tried my best and came up with,
