Chapter 31: His Usual Punishment

"Okay, we're getting nowhere," Grace complained, resting her head on her hands. I couldn't get up from the bed, so I had to stare from across.

The clock marked 7:30 p.m. The doctor had entered five times already, asking me if I was willing to see more people any time soon, but I said I wanted to be left with Grace and Jerome, since Claire went running back to Bryan's room. She hasn't been calmed for a minute, which I can't blame her for. I wasn't calm myself. My mother, though, was an exception. She came inside the room and we exchanged a few words as she kept on with her arguments on how I can't just keep on running around the school, especially if the area is restricted. I tried telling her the area was free to the public, but she didn't let me huff the littlest bit. As expected from her, she left the room ten minutes later to attend my brother and sister. They were going out for dinner. I had free dinner; hospital food. So I was not invited.

"We should just give up," I said, but Jerome shook his head.

"No! We need that little brain of yours working! Think about more combinations!" he insisted.

I sighed, kind of upset that Bryan wasn't here to help us. "Bryan didn't really discover anything, did he?"

"Actually, he did discover that the fourth and last digit is a two. But he didn't really tell us how he figured it out. So we're left with only that," she sighed. I huffed and threw my head back in surrender. "But, if it makes you feel better, I did find what Lorena Adams was doing the day she came." She gave that sneaky smile of hers that she always gives when she succeeds at something. "She left a note on the Vice-Principal's office and she left with some papers that were on the desk."

"And the file we found that other day is a scam. The one that says she is a psychopath," Jerome explained.

"How are you so sure?" I asked.

"Well, I had some time this morning to take advantage of an outage there was in the school. I went to look for your stuff, but once I noticed the outage, I made my way into the Vice-Principal's office and looked for Lorena's records. They don't state anything about her being a psychopath. And since Jerome was also at school, getting a few things for Bryan, I called him and asked him to take a look."

"And so I noticed that it had the school's official stamp. It was approved. All the files had them. But the one you and I found that day-"

"Didn't," I finished for him, in a hushed tone. "Gosh, I am so stupid!" I threw my head back once more, ignoring the aggravating pain that was caused every time I'd do that.

"It's fine. At least we have more clues and-"

"Jerome," I cut him off. His honey-green eyes stared back at me, looking a bit confused on how my voice had taken over with concern. "You guys can't keep on doing this."

"Doing what?"

"All of this. You guys can get..." I trailed off, not because I couldn't finish the sentence, but because a familiar voice began to argue from the hallway. I could recognize it anywhere at anytime.

"I don't care what she says! I've been waiting long enough to see her! I have more right than anyone else here to see her!" At least his British accent was beginning to fade little by little. He sounded a bit more American, but you could still catch the accent. "She will be pleased to see me." Meh, it could be worse, I guess.

Finally, the door swung open and Dylan stared back at me with a brow quirked up and a disapproving look. Jerome and Grace raised their heads to take a quick glance at him, but he didn't seem to notice. His eyes were too focused on me. He murmured something under his breath, so I wasn't able to catch it, although I was pretty sure it was an insult.
