Chapter 6: Who's Harold?

Finally, the day of the Star Jam came. I was in my room all alone, rehearsing my song since I had picked it last night. If I would have known before, everything would have been so much easier. I finally settled on Stay by Rihanna. I might not know how to play it on keyboard, but Claire does and she seems pretty excited about performing with me. As I was rehearsing the lyrics, my phone started vibrating. Great, another text from my best friend! I have to admit, I get a little scared every time, but I've learned to face it. I mean, after being in the game, the last thing you can do is get intimidated by him. I hit Read as the text opened.

Follow the green dots.

Love, Harold and me.

Who on Earth is me? Your number is freaking unknown! This is the worst mind game I'd ever want to be in. First, you risk it all. Then, you seem to lose it all. I sighed and opened the door. Sure enough, there were the green dot stickers. So whoever this person is, they are in this same building. Well, I've seemed to have figured this out before, but this person has always been so close to me and I don't seem to ever catch him/her.

I took careful steps as I stepped on each dot. Each time I would step on one, I would take it out. I didn't want anyone else in this situation. Jerome and I are enough people for this heck of a ride.

There was a sticker before the elevator. For a moment, I wondered if I had gotten to my destination. My head snapped in all directions, wondering if I was already where I was supposed to be, but then logic hit me. I pressed the elevator button, which revealed the elevator and the green dot that was on the elevator floor. I groaned as I got in. Luckily, no one was around. It wasn't weird, though, since it was still pretty early and people were mainly worrying about the Star Jam. After the elevator stopped in the bottom floor and the doors automatically opened up, I saw Whitney following the dots. She stared at them skeptically as she stepped on each, following the path they made.

"Whitney! Hey! Why...wh...what are you doing?" I asked as I was struggling to compose the question in my head.

"I was walking around and I saw these green dots. I got curious," she giggled.

I have heard curiosity kills the cat...and I was scared this might be a literal case of that phrase.

"Oh! Don't worry! They are for me!" I quickly covered up. She raised an eyebrow and stared at me confused.

"How do you know?" she asked. This girls was really smart and she wasn't going to buy this easily. Whitney could break the stereotype they had for blondes.

"Because...I got a note from a secret admirer!" I quickly lied. She stared at me with this face that lets you know she doesn't buy your cheap story. "Yeah...he told me to follow them," I giggled nervously.

"Sure," she said, acting like if she was dumb enough to believe me. "Isn't it too soon for you and Jerome to-?"

"Oh no!" I quickly cut her off. "You see, this is not from Jerome. Like, I am a hundred percent sure it's not him! Besides, I had seen him around before getting here, so no way. We are like...of course not!" I scoffed.

I am pretty sure that the whole blonde thing fits more to me than to Whitney.

"You know what...I will just leave you to it. But I don't know why, your secret admirer is in the school," Whitney laughed, pointing at the row of green dots that waited ahead of me. They lead me all the way towards school grounds. Why?

"Err...I..."

"I will just pretend I was never here," she said as she went back to the elevator. I sighed in relief as she disappeared. She definitely had nothing to do with this. There was no way I was going to let a stranger have complete access to my game of death. I quickly shook her off and kept on asking myself why these dots have this odd destiny.
