Chapter 32: The Best Thing You Can Do

On our way back, Tyler stopped by the vending machines to get himself a candy bar. It kind of looked like if he was trying to waste time. Poor boy. He must have been really worried about his best friend. His hands were shaking and he looked kind of pale. That scared look my little crew always carried around was now being portrayed on him. But he'd look around, probably checking that Seth wasn't anywhere near to snatch me away from him.

After getting what he wanted, he knelt in front of me. He took my small hands in his. They felt so cold, and I was sure he was thinking the same thing about mine. But they began to warm up when they were inside of his. Our gazes connected, and I felt that there was no word in the world that has been made to describe what I felt then. It was like watching a firework show in July 4th, but better. It was better because it was Tyler. And I really liked Tyler. I didn't love him; I don't know him. But truth is, you never really know someone. You know the person they want you to meet. It's the same with everyone, and I can't exclude myself. But I liked that face Tyler has shown me. Sure, he was a pain at first, but I guess that's why I liked him so much. I would never admit it to myself. He was a ten and I was...well...me. But then he showed interest. I tried ignoring it because he was a player. Finally, he showed me another face. The sensitive one. And they were both there. I didn't know which one I liked better, but they were both there when you needed them. Right then, he was showing me his sensitive one.

"Please don't slap me after I finish what I want to say," he pleaded.

"What about before?" He glared at me and I only chuckled. "I'm kidding. Go on."

"I've never really expressed my feelings, and don't expect me to do so. At least, not as much as Jerome does it. But...I have to tell you this. While I was away, I realized how far we've came. From snarky comebacks to smiles that mean more than just teasing. You're different, Kate. You are a chaos wherever you go, but for some odd reason, I've always liked chaos. I'm always looking for it. And finding you was just as thrilling. No girl has made me feel like that. You're so damn mysterious and you're, well, amazing. From your voice to your face and your personality. And maybe you think you're ordinary, but I don't. There are thousands of pretty girls in this world, but if you'd see yourself through my eyes, I think you would understand why I am asking this to you right now."

By this point, I think my heart had already died. I was blushing all along as I felt tears building up in my eyes. Seeing him- hearing him- had me amazed. And even not knowing what he was going to ask me, I already wanted jump up at my chance and kiss him. But I couldn't because 1) I was in a wheelchair and 2) It wasn't my chance yet.

"Storm," he said in a bare whisper, clenching my hands tighter, "would you please accept to go out with me. On a real date. I know the circumstances seem hard at the moment," Oh, you have no idea. "but I will make it work. Tomorrow?"

"Tyler," I laughed. "I haven't even said yes."

He blushed a bit before letting out a small chuckle. "So what do you say?"

"Yes," I said with no hesitation. "But not tomorrow." He creased his brows in confusion. "I have somethings to catch up with."

He still smiled before saying, "Then let me know when you can." I nodded, and he swiftly ran hand through my hair before leaning closer. But I couldn't wait anymore. I found my strength to take his collar and pull him closer to me, crashing his lips on mine. I just couldn't get enough of him.

"By the way, I still think you're an irresponsible jerk," I teased him. He laughed until I seriously added, "I'm not kidding." Which, technically, I wasn't.
